This is yet another amazing lecture by Dan Harlan, teaching some absolute gold- so much so that I
wish that no one else could buy it!
But alas, it's here on penguin and to be honest this is
some A+ material that I will be doing in my show. Dan Harlan teaches how to make the gimmicks quite
clearly and I enjoyed listening to him perform and teach these great tricks.
If you've ever
wanted to produce things using a hat and coat, this is your best stop! You have to get this!

Construction of hat[s] was very good, but because of the "black art" effect some of results were
hard to see. Maybe add front lighting if demoing in future. Loading preps were very good especially
the silk/briefs/socks production. My favorite was your idea and explanation of using rolls of vinyl
tape to replace the old paper hat coils.
Each lesson has something for everyone and gets you
thinking new ways to approach your magic.
I have had the Tarbell set for several years and the
lessons add a new respect for what is in them and what can come from the material.

Really well done as usual, some great effects, enjoyed watching but will probably will not invest
the resources or time to build the props or perform any of the effects.

I'm usually a big fan of the Tarbell courses as they bring a lot to the repertoire.
However,
for this one, I was a big disappointed. Performance wise, some loads are too obvious and even some
of them are flashing.
Plus, it sorts of drags around the same productions for too long.
However, the techniques taught can be used in performance.

I've been trying to learn how to do more productions and everyone wants to learn how to pull a
rabbit out of a hat! Anyway, this video has some great ideas and methods for hats and coats
productions and Dan Harlan is a great teacher and this is a great series of videos from Tarbell
instructional methods. I love the performances, the explanations and I have already adapted 1 or 2
of the methods learned here. Great buy!

I commend Dan for his knowledge tutorials on the Tarbell line I own several and they are always
entertaining, with a well of knowledge the things Dan brings to these effects are well worth the
money.
As in most of these old Tarbell routines there’s a lot more DIY than this generation is
used to. I learn so much from these videos from the names of hardware store items, fabric store
items, dollar store items, If you have half the mind of Dan you are insanely magical. He constructs
so much there from adaptations of old hat effects to stage and blocking to the actual feeling
invoked by certain gestures or prop choices.
I agree that some of these routines are a bit
complicated as Dan points out himself but some of the props he drops for builds should be put out by
p3 maybe that’d help get that book out? Dans given the magic community and young dreamers so much to
think about. Penguin should produce some of these ideas he’s had and cut him another check.
If
you can sell THE EYE for 45$ (which I’m pretty happy with all n all) this spinal cord routine could
easily sell for $100 with a nice bit of kit whether it’s rubber or plastic.
Some have pointed
out it’s a bit flashy, but the more magic I’ve seen in real life the more I understand it’s not
video perfect every time the stage is not a sans mind video. The idea is to entertain and as much
co tent as is in Tarbells I dare any of you to get one routine perfect and film it. Not to mention
get all the rights and contracts ans all that businesses in order as well and show me a flawless
performance. Still laughing and bringing joy Dan is a Legend
Let’s get Dan some credit he
deserves! This generation needs guys like Dan!
