As the art of magic evolves, we find that a single amazing moment is often stronger than an entire entertaining act. Coin magic, focused almost entirely on transpositions, is in particular need of something to make it "stand out" and give it more "depth."

With PROFILE and SKEWER world-renowned sleight of hand expert, Garrett Thomas, brings you two amazing moments of strange that will give your audiences something very different to talk about.

These extremely powerful, reality-twisting moments break through the expectations of the typical coin trick and force your audiences to ask themselves, "Did that REALLY just happen?"

PROFILE In Garrett's new coin concept, you slowly press your finger into a Kennedy half-dollar that amazingly melts, shaping a deep impression into the metal of the coin. PROFILE includes an optional twist ending, as the portrait of the president can be shown to have been pushed out in 3D.

SKEWER Garrett has reworked the classic Karate Coin into an illusion that allows you to slowly push your finger completely through a half-dollar and make it look as though it is melting in every direction through the face of the coin. This is definitely NOT your Grandmother's finger through coin trick!

Included with PROFILE and SKEWER are two amazing new tools, made from Kennedy half-dollars. Garrett explains how to use these tools in two real-world routines and includes four options for performing each of the effects (ranging in difficulty from novice to expert).

The next evolution in coin magic Report this review

Mine arrived from Penguin on Saturday. I knew what the coins were from the demo, so no surprise, except the profile coin is really cool looking in person.

The DVD was a big surprise. I had thought that it would be a very simple explanation because the coins pretty much do the work. A very basic spellbound move and you have a great piece of very unusual magic.

The DVD is actually very comprehensive. You get a studio solo performance and two live performances ( in a pub ) of both Skewer and Profile. Garrett goes over basic handlings for both coins.

Garrett gives instruction on proper finger palm placement to make the hand look natural.

Switches shown:
Fake Take
Spellbound

Now you're up and running and can perform. This is what I use. I appreciate the advanced handlings and enjoyed watching them, but I'm a keep it simple guy ( translated, I can't do advanced work;-)

Advanced switch handlings shown:

Snap Change ( a spellbound type switch )
Roll over switch. This is the most difficult, but because of the way Garrett constructed the routine of massaging ( heating the coin ) it provides excellent cover for the switch. I think you could do it poorly and it will work.

This is a fairly easy trick to perform, so you can actually watch their faces as you do it. MUCH different reactions than 3 fly or other transpo type of tricks. Not better, just different. Because it's done slowly, you really see them go through the "how is that happening" facial expressions.

I would suggest not using too much magician patter on this. I've been letting them examine the Kennedy half. Taking it back and SLOWLY make the magic happen. Because you aren't changing a silver coin into a copper coin, they don't know a switch has happened. I say, "let me get my lighter" and I while I retrieve it, and I ditch the normal coin ( never go to your pocket without a reason and you must tell them the reason, or it 'smells';-) The lighter of course supplies the extra heat. You can let them examine the coin ( they'll want to ).

Have I been asked to change it back? Yes! Then why don't I? Gut feeling not to. I use heat to cause the change and I tell them it takes extreme cold to change it back and I have to leave it over night in my freezer. I'm not a professional so if that's seems wrong or bad theater, it's what has been working for me. I'm open to doing if differently if I read a sound reason.

I've only been doing it this week, but so far, the Profile coin is the big reaction getter. I thought it would be the other way around. Maybe I thought that from my experiences with the karate coin.

I've carried a Half Dollar and English penny in my pocket for 30 years. I may not even perform it, but still carry them just in case. I will now carry Profile.

BIG THUMBS for me up on this trick!

Garrett Thomas makes everything look so easy. The first time I saw him perform pen thru quarter live belw me away. Everything looks so clean. Well this trick falls into the same category. It looks easier then it is. If you are a coin guy then you are way ahead of the game. It requires a couple of switches which he teaches several. I'm on the fence with this one. Not sure this will end up in my pocket or my drawer

I really like it. I have several half dollar gimmicked coins and just love adding this to any variety of routines.

Suggestion For Zombie: When you put the lighter back in your pocket after finishing the routine, switch the gimmicked coin back for the normal coin. Come out with the normal coin and wait for them to ask to see it (If they don't ask, don't show). If they ask, play with them a bit. Tell them you can't show it to them just yet. Hold it out in your clenched fist. Make them wait. then ask them to hold out their hand, drop the regular coin in their hand and reveal your hands empty. BTW, another way is to ditch the gimmick coin with a a piece of double sided tape on the underside of your forearm, about two inches away from your elbow. Pretend to pass the coin from one hand to the other and hold your arm. As you do, stick the coin to the tape. Reveal each hand one at a time. You can show the top and bottom of your hands and the coin can't be seen. Use this method to make the coin "melt away" entirely. Have fun!

This can be a powerful effect if performed at the right moment. I would not use this as a 'showcase' effect---it is just something you do at an unexpected moment or on an offbeat. I gave it four stars because the effect does have some limitations---but these can be ameliorated by effective handling, which Garrett covers in detail very well on the DVD. You get two effects and a DVD---along with some bar-scene performances included on the video. Overall, I am happy with the purchase!

Fantastic trick for the price and you get two separate gimmicks Garrett Thomas teaching on the video is very detailed and clear this is definitely staying with me as in everyday Carrie My only complaint would be that I wish the skewer was just a few centimeters wider otherwise I can still fit my finger through and the reactions are great Don't know why I don't see more magicians doing this it's karate coin and metal bending with a coin if you want something very unique don't hesitate to pick this up

Do you really wanna amp up your coin routine and give people something to remember you by? Dont hesitate and buy this product. The two effects are freaky and really catch the spectators off guard because youre manipulating coins in a way they probably never have seen. Garretts name is attached to this product that should be all you need to know!! He teaches the routines and all the little details to make this trick top notch amazement. I would give this 5 more stars if i could!!!

If you have at least medium coin skills you can learn/perform this routine just looking at the video. I purchased the video looking for any new finesse, but didn't find anything worth remembering. For me, the price is just a little on the high side, but it is nice you get the gaffs. I feel maybe that this material could have been put on a compilation dvd and not stand alone. Only thing truly annoying, is the menu options; forces you to go back and forth to navigate for lessons, all the while subliminally making you see "demo" options of other products made by such and such company. Overall, it's a decent product that I could recommend, but not rush out and get.
