Quentin Reynolds' 5 Minutes with a Pocket Handkerchief
Price: 29.95
Difficulty
5/10
It's quite easy to learn, the moves are easy. Just all you have to do is practice,
practice, practice.
Set-Up
10/10
The only thing you need to do is fold the
hankerchief up into a square. Now you are ready to perform!
Practice Time
5/10
I
don't do this routine as I haven't spent enough time with it, but once I start watching the DVD more
often, it should be easy. He has a nice long routine, that when you practice often. You will
remember it for the rest of your life.
Video Quality
9/10
The menu is a little
slow but the graphics and sound are great.
Teaching Quality
8/10
He teaches the
routine very well. The thing I didn't like is how he started out with the mouse at the beggining
when teaching, but that wasn't the start of the routine. So it confused me for about 5-10 mins.
Otherwise, the angles and everything are great. He doesn't fumble and mumble a lot when teaching so
it is easy to understand.
The routine
9/10
I think its well thought out and
planned. Children and adults too, will have a fun time watching it. You will also have fun
performing it!
Comments

I've always wanted this routine ever since I saw it performed for me when I was really little. A
walk-around magician did it for my family and I while we were at the pier at redondo beach. It was
evening, and the guy told me about a special cloth...he did a similar routine and turned the
handkerchief into different things and then made it move! I really thought the handkerchief moved by
itself!
When I saw this demo for the first time, I was just getting into magic and passed
it by because it wasn't cool enough for me. Handerchief tricks with highschool kids and adults?
IDK...So, it's been 5 years now that I've been doing magic for lots of different people and I've
gotten a lot more serious about it - I don't mind using a handkerchief anymore as long as I pick the
right audience and the right context to use it in. I use to practice my tricks on little kids if my
friend had a relative they wanted me to do a trick for, but they were never really interested in
cards and coins and I would always hear "can you do things with other stuff?"
Since then
I've always stayed away from handkerchiefs because generally it's used once or twice in a routine
and discarded and that really turned me off. I started other routines with silverware, coins,
rubber-bands, paper clips and safety pins, pens, pencils, but nothing in a really solid routine that
didn't involve boring office supplies.
Then I came back to this handkerchief dvd and made
the buy after 5 years. This is a truly under-used and under-estimated piece of magic. I never
thought about the handkerchief as being so mysterious and special. This routine, although a super
fun one to do also teaches you to embrace this tool as something unique and powerful in itself and
with that, makes your performance come to life. With other applications, the handkerchief may just
be your secret weapon as it disarms spectators instantly. They don't take the thing seriously at all
and so you can use it in really haunting ways (imagine a routine done with a creepy looking cloth)or
like in this routine, use it for something really fun and light-hearted. When involved with
spectators they really start thinking that the cloth is not for real or that it's weird or scary!
As for this particular dvd though, it's really fun to watch and practice with, easy
navigation, and good bonus tips and techniques, but it also teaches a lot about the magic between
the handkerchief and the magician -and for other performances, that's invaluable. There's a lot more
to the routine than meets the eye and Quentin's performance teaches a lot about performing with a
croud outside of handerchief magic as well as connecting with the tools and props that you use in
your performances to make them really, really come to life and really powerful. Now go scare some
people with this! Watch out for kids and don't make them cry!! LOL

This is the best act I've ever seen doing with just an ordinary full-size gentlemans handkerchief!
Even creating that little mouse is worth the price of the DVD. Well I haven't yet created the mouse
because it always falls to pieces as I practice, I've only got to the christmas-cracker part. But
all I can say is WOW! I didn't know I could make such funny things with a hanky. I got invited to
perform some magic at christmas eve in my local church for kids and if I can get this trick down,
I'll get the church down. ;-) A complete must for childrens entertainer and Quentin is one of my
favourite magicians! It is hard to get things down but all you need to get before you buy this DVD
or as you buy this, get a full size gentlemens hanky (18" size) and a Watchwinder gag. The
watchwinder isn't supplied through Penguin Magic but I bought this at my local dealer. Quentin
explains that Watchwinders are sold in many magic shops. The watchwinder is also fun in other
situations but using the Watchwinder in this effect it gets a great laugh!
The mouse is
something smaller than Roxie Raccoon and close likely to Judy Mouse, and this is the Magic mouse.
Quentin is the best childrens entertainer I've ever seen!

This is a truly wonderful DVD. It is worth the price just for the entertainment value. The
instruction is very clear and complete. Most of the routines are very useful and adaptable. You
won't need many materials that you don't already have.

This a unique routine in that with a pocket handkerchief you can make and animate a mouse. I am
working on putting this directly into my kids shows. If you do shows for kids then you should
consider getting this. Add it to your cart now.

Okay the whole mouse routine is worth the price of the dvd. This routine is PERFECT for any kid show
or adult performer. The reactions are awesome. Quenton teaches great, and you can learn the whole
routine the first time watching it through.

I've been a huge fan of this routine since I saw it performed on Quentin Reynolds' Perform Like a
Pro DVD many years ago. I've also seen it performed by him personally at Blackpool Magic Convention.
However I'd forgotten that he'd released a teaching DVD of it. Big mistake. I've entertained kids
professionally for 10 years and I wish that I'd had this routine in my repertoire that whole time.
It's fairly simple to learn and Mr Reynolds teaches it very clearly and concisely. The magic is VERY
strong and it's a routine you'll treasure.
Just brilliant! :D

this is my absolute favorite routine to perform. it can be done for both kids and adults and in any
venue like at birthday parties and even bars. i will say that i dont use a handkerchief but a 22"
bandana which makes the mouse at the end a bit larger. the teaching on the dvd is great, and
quentin even gives you advice on coming up with your own routines. buy this one now.

This DVD has one of the best childrens magic routines on it that I have ever seen. It uses a very
ordinary object to entertain people. It starts small and works its way into being able to bring
things to life. If you are a children's magician, then this DVD is a must.
