This DVD is the best introduction to coin magic I've come across. Rather than bombard the student
with all of the possible techniques with coins, David focuses on 3 major concealments, and teaches
how to get in and out of each, as well as transfer smoothly transition between them, along with all
of and accompanying tips and subtleties.
The video also features slow-motion, close-up
demonstrations of the techniques, allowing the student to study David's hands, touches, and
subtleties. David was a hand model, and the video really showcases that he has put a lot of thought
into how to make the hands look natural, relaxed, and empty.
To conclude, the tricks he teaches
build on the information, as well as excellent exercises for practicing everything the DVD teaches.
David actually used 2 of the tricks on his David Letterman appearance. I recall being thoroughly
fooled by his performance, despite knowing about most of the techniques from Michael Ammar's
Complete Introduction to Coin Magic.
Pay close attention to how long David waits after making a
coin vanish before moving on to get a sense of good timing for coin magic. He is not a believer in
"hand-washing" techniques (which means showing the hands empty while concealing the coin, not
ignoring hygiene practices), so he uses technique and timing to accomplish his effects.
Please
do not get hung up on the fact he teaches 3 concealments; while he teaches plenty of techniques and
sleights, he goes narrow and deep rather than wide and shallow. Mastery of the material in this
video will equip a novice to coin magic with a great understanding to advance into advanced
sleight-of-hand.
Highly recommended!
