So I got this as a birthday present. My in-laws ordered from Penguin. When I opened the box it was
assembled all wrong. Some flaps were simply not attached, just tossed in the package. Some of the
pages were facing the wrong direction. I had to take it all apart and assemble it myself. Once I got
it together I discovered another manufacturing defect. The pages themselves are supposed to be cut
down the middle. Mine were not and I had to grab a pair of scissors to do it myself. It doesn't
function as smooth as it would if the pages had come already split like they were supposed to but
it'll have to do. As it's a gift I can't return it, but I think I can make it work ok. The materials
are sturdy and it will last a long time. But it took me a long time to fix problems I shouldn't have
had to deal with and while I can get some use out of it it will never function as well as it would
had it come properly put together.
I had the same issue with the slit down the middle of each flap. It shows in the video that they're cut but I don't believe the ones we received are supposed to be cut. I ruined mine trying to cut them myself so I couldn't return it. Now it just sits in a drawer. Misleading video.
I appologize for the confusion over the split pages. My mistake in this was not amending the instruction video to omit mention of them. The notion came from an earlier iteration of the index but after three decades of working with pocket indexes, I have come to the conclusion, the split pages are not necessary.
