Okay, so let me start by saying I've carried chapstick in my pocket everyday for years. I love items that I already carry on me being able to do a couple of effects. This is sort of getting into the EDC category, but more on that in a minute. I have a lot of chapstick based effects and gimmicks. Redline by Dan Hauss, The Chapslick Kit by Philly Magic and Dan Hauss, Smooth by Nicholas Lawrence, Cap by Byron Yung, Chapstick Addict by Jeff Prace, Flip Balm by Seth Race to name of few.
I love Seth Race's stuff! Bankript is one of my all time favorite dollar bill effects, so much so that took on the pain in the ass task of learning to make the gimmick myself just so I could give them away as impposible objects. I do wish with Flip Balm we would have gotten the gimmick in at least one other color or be shown how to make something similar ourselves. If you own the Chapslick Kit you can indeed make something similar. Most Penguin Chapstick effects (Smooth, Flip Balm) use the same black label. I've never met anyone that uses the plain original black label myself, most have some sort of flavor/color labels.
To me the real value here is the tutorials, wow! You get 2, (both around 50 min each) one by Seth Race and one by Craig Petty. Craig also brings in some good ideas, the best to me being the Double Exposure / Coin on Call style of effect. Although I'm not quite sure Craig understands the term EDC. Could you EDC Flip Balm? Sure. Should you EDC Flip Balm? Probably not unless you plan on buying more of them or you keep your gimmicks in a special case/place. I like to just throw my EDC stuff in my pocket as I usually would. If you do that with Flip Balm the gimmick could come off and potentially be ruined in your pocket. If I have to protect something or it's fragile, to me, it's not an EDC item. I need them to be tough and rugged and stand up to the wear and tear of everyday carry and use, like coins or keys for example.
All in all Flip Balm is a great addition to my ever growing Chapstick arsenal and I can't wait to see what Seth Race comes up with next!!!
