This was the first item I bought from Penguin Magic, and I paid more than $ 100. It has been my
favorite effect for one-on-one or small groups for several years. I've gained a reputation. People
I've never met come up to me at conferences and ask me to bend coins because someone told them about
me doing it before. The weight and style is so cool, too, that it looks like an expensive pen. Mine
even survived two trips through the washing machine. Unfortunately, I either misplaced it or someone
picked it up.
I just received my replacement. I was worried because the price was less than
half the original one. I thought they may have changed the manufacturing or materials to lower the
cost. However, this is almost exactly like my first one. The only difference is a minor change. Now
the ballpoint can be retracted. (I took the ballpoint out of my first one because it can be painful
to finger palm that end.)
BTW, I also have a Superman. It works well and is less expensive.
However, you have to wear a jacket with sleeves. (Hint: I almost missed my flight when I forgot the
Superman was in my jacket. I had to explain a lot to airline security.)
I've never had
problems with ditching the Boa Pen, though. I often nonchantly put it back together right in front
of my audience while they are looking at the bent coin. It looks like I'm just fidgeting with my
pen. I've been asked to examine the pen, but no one has ever discovered the gimmick. They usually
assume that I bent the coin around the pen shaft, a pretty amazing feat in itself if I had.
I like Jay Noblezada's idea about ditching the two halves in my back pockets when wearing jeans.
That works great, too. But I wouldn't worry too much. Just don't make a big deal out of putting the
pen away and no one seems to notice since they are amazed at the bent coin.
The replacement
also includes better instructions and one new handling where the coin "bends" in the spectator's own
hand. I haven't tried it, but I will soon.
Buy this thing! You will love it and will blow
other people's minds with it. (And it'll cost you less than half what my first one did.) Just work
on your finger palming and be bold about ditching the gimmick afterwards.
