I ordered this when it first became available.
So I have had a couple weeks with it.
The F'n Coin guys Phillipe, and Clemente; are great when it comes to visuals.
For this
release the visuals remain, but there are a few issues.
Firstly, there are 2 routines that
I am working:
1. Rubberring. This is a great in and out ring routine with a band. The
spellbound finish is optional, so I leave it out.
Easy to get down, a bit tricky to learn. (More
on that.)
2. F$%#. A highly visual and puzzling effect.
I have not had time to get
this one performance ready yet.
About the teaching:
It is silent, and it is shot from a
single angle at a time.
As well, most shots during teaching are about 4' away from the hands.
This can make following the moves difficult.
They do go behind the hands, and freeze on
certain moves; but some of the moves are just done quickly, and exposed, without much detail at all.
(In the end, they do go over a discussion regarding using two magicians to do certain
effects. Interesting, but not wholly practical.)
This is compounded by the fact that the
teaching is completely separate from the effect presentations.
(And also staged performances,
not random.)
There is a 25 minute short film that showcases the main effects; and if you
like them, there will be a lot of jumping between the 2 separate chapter menus to learn them.
I point this out because at one point there is an aerial shot of them driving, done with either
a flying go-pro, or helicopter; that shows the level of production.
I just wish that level
of dedication went with the teaching shots.
Crediting: Almost every effect has 2-3 credits
for other magician's effects. Some as modern as Calen Morelli.
This is credited well; but it
would seem that you are not buying any new groundbreaking moves, but rather their own takes on the
presentations possible with those moves.
All in all, this is still a very entertaining, and
interesting DVD set.
Many of the effects will take a few seconds prep; so while they seem
to be impromptu, you will have to misdirect your set ups, even on the ones I mentioned that I do.
Rubberring; for example, has to be set up after you borrow the ring. There is no way to do
it in front of them and have them be impressed. You have to misdirect, or do it to the side.
Those concerns noted; there is still some cool visuals, and unique plots on staple band moves.
If you do not mind working a little harder to get the info, and do not mind a little
fidgeting in performance; there is plenty to check out here.
(It says 12 routines, but at
one point goes into so many extra ideas; I would say it's more like 25 effects.)
I ordered
overseas, so it cost a little more.
But for those wanting to check it out here in the US, buying
it from Penguin should be a fair deal.
If you are not at least entertained by the
presentation, you will find at least one thing you will use.
If you like to "Hit and Run"
magic, there could be even more.
