Oz is a great teacher, you will learn
everything you need to get started as a magican.
All the basics are perfectly explained and you
will lean them without any trouble.
The tricks Oz performs amd teaches are prety good
(4/5).
The tricks are also well explained, but they are not advanced, however they are very
visual and they'll blow your audiences mind!
So if you are a beginner and you want to learn
something about magic then this is a MUST!
Congrats to Oz on such a good beginners dvd.
Overall: 5/5

I'm just getting reacquainted with magic after taking fifteen years off. Previously, I used a lot
of gimmicks and my sleight was mediocre at best. This time around, being a bit older and more
patient, I decided to focus mainly on card tricks that can be done with a standard deck of cards.
This DVD was the PERFECT purchase. Oz does an amazing job of explaining each move and shows you how
to incorporate most of them into a routine. After about a month of practicing about an hour or two
a day, I have mastered a majority of the moves taught on the DVD and am doing three of the four
routines with ease. Many of these techniques are taught in other various downloads, but with this
DVD you are getting all of them in one place and I've found that learning other routines have been
much, much easier after spending some time with this DVD.

If you're wanting to learn card magic, this is the DVD for you! I've watched the whole DVD and there
are tons of information on this. Oz Pearlman does a wonderful job of teaching and if you master all
the techniques on this DVD you'll be a great card magician. Bravo! I have absolutely NO regrets
purchasing this item.

SUMMARY: An expanded and updated version of a classic introduction to card magic
A NEW
VERSION
I recently picked up the new edition of Oz Pearlman's Born to Perform Card Magic
DVD, which was released in 2013. I was curious how it compared with the original DVD that was
released in 2003, and in this review I'll summarize what the differences are, and what the contents
of the new edition include.
I bought my DVD of the 2013 version directly from the creator,
Penguin Magic. The nice thing is that in addition to sending you the DVD of the new edition,
Penguin Magic also gives you access to a digital download of both the 2003 version and the 2013
version, so you get the best of both worlds. Both videos are videos in *.mp4 format, with the 2003
video being 753 MB in size, and the 2013 video being 1.43 GB in size.
LENGTH
The
new edition is billed as an updated/expanded version, and that's clearly evident when you compare
the length of the two videos:
2003 version: 1 hour 44 minutes
2013 version: 3 hours 48
minutes
DIFFERENCES
So what's the difference exactly? Well for starters, Oz
himself is now 10 years older, and has a lot more professional experience under his belt. He has a
new look and even a new smile. Everything has been re-filmed and the explanations have been re-done
from scratch. Most of the content covers the same material, but not exactly - I'll mention what
exactly those differences are in the next section.
CONTENT ON THE ORIGINAL 2003 EDITION
ONLY
Not everything that was in the 2003 edition of the DVD is found in the 2013 edition,
and several sections from the original have vanished. These are the following:
a) Controls: -
Classic Pass; - Hindu Shuffle Pass; - One Handed Top Palm; - Elmsley Count
b) Forces: - Riffle
Force
CONTENT ON THE NEW 2003 EDITION ONLY
The new edition is about twice as long,
and that's because some of the explanations are more detailed and elaborate, but also because it has
some new material. Here's a list of all the new topics:
a) Controls: - Gamblers Cop; - False
Overhand Shuffle
b) Forces: - Dribble Force; - Spread Cull Force
c) Flourishes: - Swivel
Change
d) Routines: - Slop Shuffle; - Card to Mouth; - Blossom Production
COMPARISON
It's a pity to see some material from the original version left out in the new version,
especially the Riffle Force (given its popularity), and the Elmsley Count (given that it is used in
so many tricks). I'm also curious why a decision was made to eliminate the Pass, although this is a
more advanced move that is typically beyond the scope of beginners, and perhaps that's why it was
removed. If material was going to be added, the Glide would have been an obvious addition as a
fairly basic sleight, so I'm surprised that this continues to be an omission from what is intended
to be a good introduction to fundamentals.
But the additional elements are very solid, and
the increased number of routines in the new version will especially be welcome to many people. What
I like most, however, is the fact that the sleights and moves are taught in a little more detail,
and I think the more elaborate explanations here are very helpful.
Oz himself appears to
have lost some of his youthful innocence, and comes across a little more brash and almost
over-confident. I'm still not quite sure what to make of his new business suit attired persona, or
whether I prefer the younger Oz. But he is still an excellent teacher, and that's really what this
video is all about. It's always been an excellent choice for relative beginners looking to get a
good handle on the fundamentals of card magic, and overall this enhanced version only makes a good
thing even better.
RECOMMENDATION
Oz Pearlman's "Born to Perform Card Magic" DVD
has always been applauded for being a great introduction to the fundamentals of card magic, and one
of the better entries in this genre. The updated and expanded 2013 edition takes something that is
a proven success, and expands it for a new audience that may not be familiar with the original. It
still deserves to be one of the top recommendations for new magicians, and continues to be an
excellent starting point to give beginners a good head-start with their card magic.

Ordered this DVD after getting back into magic after quite a few years away from it. Decided to
focus on cards and found this DVD recommended a lot on different magic forums. It really is one of
the best card magic DVD's to buy if you want to perform some great effects. The ACR moves are worth
the price alone. When I first tried the card to mouth move I really never thought it would work but
it did...and it does everytime!! It always get's an awesome reaction. Oz's misdirection ideas are
always dead on and they do honestly work! I have had this DVD for over a year now and I always go
back to it and find some new little bit of info I missed before. If you want to learn impressive
card magic from a great instructor....Buy It!!

I HAVE TO SAY, THIS DVD HAS EXCELLENT FLOURISHES. EVEN IF YOU ARE BEST MAGICIAN I STILL HAVE TO SAY
THE FLOURISHES LIKE THE LE PAUL SPREAD ARE ALWAYS GOING TO BE USED AS AN OPENER. I GOT THIS DVD
AWHILE AGO, AS I GOT BETTER IN MAGIC THE SOME OF THE MOVES I STILL USE ARE FROM THIS DVD. THIS DVD
STARTED ME IN CARD MAGIC AND THE FIRST TRICKS I USED WERE FROM THE DVD. I STILL REMEMBER THE
REACTIONS IN PEOPLES FACE WHEN I SHOWED THEM THESE AMAZING TRICKS.THAY ALSO REMEMBER THE TRICKS I
SHOWED THEM AS A WOULD WALK TO CLASS AND HEAR STUDENTS TALKING ABOUT THE EFFECT. THANKS OZ

This dvd does a pretty good job with one major draw back, you never a magician's point of view
whenever he is teaching you. That is a MAJOR downside to me. It would have been easy to bring the
camera around and shoot over his shoulder so you could mimic what he was doing.

This is one of the first DVDs I purchased from Penguin and it is one of the best. I don't use the
tricks in it as much now but I used them all the time when I was a beginner. If you are getting in
to card magic get this DVD. You will love it!!!!

This is card magic at it's finest. Simple and powerful and gives you a jumpstart. I got this when I
first started in magic and I still go back to it to this day for refreshers. I really like the 2
card monte in this set because you don't need to know that risky sleight that has to be done quickly
It's used as a memory test as well which is a plus because it doesn't look like you are out
to get their money and just fool them.
You get all your basic sleights here that
jumpstart your card handling and magic.
What stood out was Oz' teaching that really made me
enjoy the things I was learning. My thanks goes out to you Oz!
