i usually do not write reviews but it is usually a bad sign when a DVD product doesnt have a video
preview...the reason for this is if anyone saw it, no one would buy it. worst magic purchase ever.
not for mentalists who arent beginners

I’m new to ESP cards but I’ve been doing drawing duplications and movie mentalism for about 10
years. I love this download! I must say I did purchase this from the auction and this was a steal. I
do know a few of these effects and performed them but the ones I do know, I feel I still got
something extra from David’s teachings.
8 card brainwave is a very underrated yet powerful
effect. David teaches this jumbo handling perfectly and highly recommend.
Fast and loose is
another underrated effect. Not for everyone but it’s still fun know and perform.
I will say the
Eclipse cards by Dee Christopher are excellent and what I am currently using and practicing with for
Fundamentalism. I will be selecting and combining both artists’ routines into my ESP sets for close
up and parlor.
Highly recommend for beginners. If you’re experienced, read the effects first
and decide for yourself. I will be using about 5-6 of these effects for sure.
I am a professional mentalist.
This is simple mentalism. I like it simple, so that is a
plus. Much of it is very heavily based on other's work which is why I am giving it four stars. It
does say it is "Basic Mentalism" and it is called "Fundamentalism" which should be clues that this
is simple and old.
All of it is strong except for "Flip Flop" which is WAY too long.
If you are a beginner then this is a good DVD for you. Even if you are an experienced
mentalist, there are good routine ideas.
My favorite is David's ESP Routine. It is
hard-hitting and has multiple predictions throughout.
As for the grey elephant in Denmark,
this was overexposed in the '80s or '90s, but I think most laypeople have forgotten it. Especially
20-year-olds who were not around when it was overexposed.
I'll be as nice as possible here. The presentation is lacking and sets a bad example of what
mentalism should look like. The tricks, with the exception of the swindle, were not good effects.
There may be one or two that you are amused by, but these are not workers. There is not one trick
on here that I would consider adding to my personal repertoire.
The Good- The swindle
was interesting. I wouldn't present it as mentalism though. It's a neat trick that you could have
a lot of fun with. But, it isn't worth the price of the DVD.
This DVD is excellent mentalism for a close up situation, using ESP cards, Playing cards, and jumbo
cards. Magicians will scoff that it is too simplistic because none of the methods are clever or
devious. But the best mentalism effects are always simple in method. This allows the performer to
place full emphasis on presentation. None of these effects is slow or tedious as some mentalism
effects tend to be. All flow and build, often to multiple climaxes.
All effects are well
attributed to original sources which inspired the changes that David has made. The video quality is
excellent. The explanations are very clear.
Davids opening 3-phase ESP routine is an
especially good demonstration of routining for close-up mentalism. It flows naturally from simple
mindreading through complete separation of the ESP cards into matching sets. Along the way David
gives tips on proper equivoque and subtleties of card handling that seem to mix the cards randomly
while maintaining control.
The Flip Flop routine demonstrates mind control of several
spectators at once as they all arrive at the same conclusion after making their own random choices.
Davids ESP with Playing Cards effect is another 3-phase routine which demonstrates
presentation and timing in card revelation using what would be considered trivial methods
well-disguised by presentation.
The proper handling of the Hoy book test using borrowed
books is near perfect.
Over al,l this is a good DVD to study for presentation of effects in
the manner of mentalism rather than as tricks of magic. Excellent!
