As what is arguably equally important to the study of magic to the sleights and effects, the
magicians tables, cases and gear are really NEVER deeply explored within the realm of magic.
Well, that all just changed with a 2 volume DVD set that is worth its weight in GOLD to the true
performer.
I know that I threw out my briefcase after watching this DVD; he gave so many
tips and explained things that made my performances SO much better.
And this isn't just a
guy who is guessing what he is talking about; he really has been doing this for years, and it is
incredibly obvious in the way that he explains things (some you haven't even heard of) in COMPLETE
detail.
This volume (volume 1) was actually, in my opinion, not quite as good as volume
two. However, if you ONLY have the money to pick up ONE volume, it is highly recommended you pick up
the first; it will really give you insight as to how Tom teaches and what kinda stuff he goes
over...
...and come on, for 12 dollars? That is a REDICULOUS steal! Pick this up today!
This is my absolute favorite DVD set ever produced by Penguin Magic. It teaches you how to get off
your butt and onto your feet and performing.
On volume 1, you learn about cases and
different ways to manage your props as well as construucting a few things. He goes through close
up, to stand up and parlor, then stage and a few other little adages. I really liked how organized
he was with EVERYTHING about the DVD. He even brought all of his stuff to show you how it's laid out
for you.
When this first started out, he was just talking a little about the DVD, then he
goes to some little prop managing tips like some special cases etc. Then he moves on to different
tables, stands, larger cases, tackle boxes, and everything else you never thought of to carry your
tricks.
Towards the end, he got into some much larger tables and even some performance
pads. THen he taught us in a little detail about his table top that he built. It's almost the size
of a pool table but looks REALLY nice and won't set you back much.
After that, Tom runs
you through some much larger cases to carry illusions or multiple suitcases and props. And of course
at the end, he teaches us how to make a really cool suitcase style table. It has a mic stand that
holds up your entire case and it packs really flat. You can set it up in a second, in fact, he
actually does!
All in all, this DVD deserves a 5. You can see he is a TRUE professional and
knows what he's talking about. Anybody who wants to go pro, or even knows a little or is already
professional, I recommend THIS dvd first. You will gain a TON of information from it
