This is an impromptu mentalism effect handled as a simple packet trick, involving an amazing first phase based on a prediction and a great final surprise.
The conjurer, after showing nine cards of Spades, from Ace to 9, shuffles them and has a spectator cut the pack. Holding it facedown, the magician chooses one card without showing it, leaving it in view as his prediction. He has the spectator cut the remaining pack (of eight cards) again and asks him to think of any number from 1 to 9. He will also have to choose a role between honest and liar, according to which he will always respond to what is shortly to be asserted by the magician, always speaking the truth or always lying.
Having made a quick shuffle, the mentalist will divide the deck in two and try to guess in which half is the card corresponding to the number thought of by the spectator, who will react, depending also on the role chosen, by confirming or denying what he will hear said. After repeating this procedure a few more times, which alternates between shuffles and attempts to locate the thought card, he will give a final shuffle of the cards and turn the pack face up, asking the spectator for the first time to state whether he had chosen to tell truth or lie and which number he is thinking about (this time he will not be allowed to lie anymore).
Upon receiving the participant's answers, he will prove that he predicted it correctly. However, it does not end there... The magician will now deal the cards into four piles of two cards each, asking the spectator to choose freely which he prefers. He will then turn over the two Spades cards belonging to the chosen pile and the sum of their values will be performed: amazingly, the initial prediction will coincide with the sum of that one pair of cards!
