I have been working at the Faro for years, but never got it to be perfect every time. I watched
other magicians do it and asked for tips but I would get vague answers like it's a knack or a feel
you have to discover. I copied finger positions and whenever I saw a pro do a faro on Penguin LIVE
(it's the most commonly asked question to card experts, tips on the faro) they weren't very specific
and the finger positions varied.
I had heard about the Unshuffled trick in a Doc Dixon book
which he had a variant of. I looked into the original trick and decided even though the DVD had a
healthy price and I already knew how the trick was done, I bought it to learn the faro. I am very
satisfied with the results.
Paul goes over the faro shuffle in extreme detail, and tells you
that you have to watch the explanation several times because you will miss something. Every finger
position is important and how much pressure and where to apply it. It took a lot of practice and a
few decks, but now with a new deck I can get a perfect faro almost every time, and now I'm working
on speed and doing it without looking in case I am in a dark environment. Realize that I have only
been working on this for a couple of weeks. A lot of the work was in removing bad habits I had
learned and getting muscle memory of the finger positions.
I am confident that anyone who puts
the time and effort into this shuffle that it requires, he or she will achieve it in a decent amount
of time, I would say varied by previous experience with handling cards. Whatever your learning
curve, stick with it and you will get it.
Also Paul offers personal instruction to purchasers
of the DVD if you have trouble. He will even watch your submitted videos and tell you what to
correct until you can achieve the move.

Excellent effect but best of all, an excellent faro tutorial.
I tried several faro tutorials but
it wasn't until I watched Paul Gertner's that I finally learned how to do a faro. OK, still not
perfect every time, but I'm able to do a perfect one 3 out of 5 times and am improving each day.
Even when not perfect, I'm only missing by a card or two. If you want to learn to do a faro, this is
the way to go.

When I had saw the trick in the demo it looked like one of the best tricks I had ever saw. Simply
very very impressive. But unfortunately the teaching lacked adequate closeups on the cards when he
was teaching how to do the faro shuffle. If you need to learn the faro shuffle, there is other
teachers out there that teaches it much better like Ferguson cuts and shuffles. This unshuffling the
faro shuffle dvd would be great for someone who already knows how to do a perfect faro shuffle. I'm
practicing a lot to one day be able to do this one of the greatest and I really mean greatest card
tricks of all time. I recommend this dvd. Oh, and he overall taught the trick good but It's not his
fault that everyone does not know how to teach a faro shuffle and does it they're all individual
ways. 3.5 stars
