Although the tricks in this lesson are technically Slate tricks, you won't see a traditional chalkboard in any of them.

Instead, you'll learn how to apply the original principles to a variety of other (more common) items. Plus, you'll get new methods to open up a world of possibilities.

First, you will learn a brand new way to make any message instantly print on both sides of a blank greeting card simply slipped into an unprepared envelope.

Then, you'll learn how to use two completely ungimmicked pieces of foamcore (thoroughly shown) to produce an impossible answer to the audience's equation.

And, you will combine a few concepts to not only determine a randomly chosen word in someone's mind (letter-by-letter), but also to make those letters appear.

Then, you get all the work on the classic-of-all-classic slate tricks to reveal a chosen card. Don't overlook this one. It still plays as strong as ever.

Using a couple of party plates and a post-it note, you will learn a funny (and impressive) way to make a souvenir drawing of a chosen card.

Next, we update an outdated joke retaining the unexpected humor, but adding philosophical thought and cultural awareness... plus, a crazy-cool new method.

And finally, we finish up with a charmingly-silly gag with an unexpected pay-off, perfect for emcee and comedy work, and super-easy to do.

Enjoy performing these routines, but don't tell anyone they're Slate tricks, they'll never know, and they'll think you're the cleverest magician they've ever seen.

Dan has been able to update the material from slates to all sorts of items such as business cards, dry erase boards, card and even paper plates. Great updates and much of the material can be adapted to your style. Many of the card tricks can easily be changed to be revelations of drawings, words, etc.

Some hidden gems Report this review

Well, more hidden ideas that will probably pass people by. On my opinion, but the first idea Dan shows is almost worth the price of admission. Not because of any mentalism, but it would be a great opener in any fun act. And using his method you can make a much larger version that can be seen in a large theater.

His presentation for a Miller Slate routine is great along with is easy handling of a very traditional move of showing to blank slates.

Many ideas in here to get your mind going.

The 5 stars is for the whole Tarbell teaching. Ofcourse many things won't fit you or your approach, but Dan is a great teacher, and has got a fresh look on most Tarbell ( and other) old, old school magic. And ,so even if the tricks themselves don't go with your style; it is still good to pick up ideas and ways to approach magic. The teaching is crystal clear, Dan is very committed. Applause to him.
Only practical minus for me is the sound, I have to put volume mostly to maximum to have good sound.( Sorry for language misstakes )

I thought the 1st part was excellent and then Dan kicks it up another notch. Great routines even for those who don't like slates.

This is part two of Dan's slate lesson, and it's just as amazing as the first. Just as with the first part, you're going to get a lot more than slate magic, but the focus is on slate work and updating the slate stuff from the Tarbell lesson. These two parts were just so fantastic and there's so much good stuff here.
