The idea is Great!
The way the gimmick works makes it easy for performers of lower levels and
less experience to perform a handling that will look good and convincing.
What is not
convincing at all, in my humble opinion, is the size of the gimmick. Look at the trailer, you will
see that the card inside the box from the start is not folded in half, so it's way bigger than what
will end up in your hand seconds after. Even though we magicians notice things most people won't, I
still think some laymen may pretty well notice something is quite wrong with that change in size
from one second to another.
Even when Learning Mercury Fold, you never end up that far
from folding a card in half. The amount of time needed to do a MF that would look like the gimmick
is nonsense.
So I ask, why? Why make it that size? Why?
A smaller box would have result
in a smaller gimmick, which would have been much more convincing even for magicians. A smaller box
would have also been easier to carry in pocket. Would have also make it easier to perform. A smaller
box would have simply make this effect almost perfect. Period.
The card inside a of mystery
box always looks weird. But this one... the discrepancy between the gimmick you see and the chosen
card only adds up to the weirdness. I'd never let that thing on the table for everyone to look at
while performing an ambitious routine of whatever trick it is. Bills and billets probably look
nicer, but with Bicycle back cards, this is what it is. Maybe Bee cards would look better.
Quality box material, nice idea, quality filming on the DVD, nothing to download, awesome inputs
from Peter Turner, 80 minutes of video total. You can make 4 different cards back with the material
supplied, or have 4 chances to try making a nice one if you're not really crafty..
Be
careful with your angles, especially when the box is sitting somewhere. I believe some environments
and lightning conditions could also make this one a bit tricky.
Hope this gets re-released
in a smaller version.
