Healed and Sealed now even better with gimmick included Report this review

Healed and Sealed is a very cleverly thought out illusion. It may take some practice, or maybe experimentation is a better word, once you know the secret(s) to get the trick to come out just the way you want. Once you have the “settings” where you want them, a beginner should be able to pull this off with a bit of rehearsal.

Healed and Sealed can be presented just as seen in the video. It plays well to the small audiences I entertain and I saw it performed at a theater that amazed about a thousand spectators.

Although no one has caught on yet, I always worry about how one of the prep steps will turn out. But it looks like Penguin is now offering 100 gimmicks to take the place of this preparation included in the price. Great idea! I’m sure most or all of us would rather spend our effort on the presentation and not on the arts and crafts.

Hey good folks at Penguin Magic, how about offering just the gimmicks at a reasonable cost to those of us that already sprung for the prior version of Healed and Sealed?

I have always loved this effect since it first came out after the David Blaine special many years ago. I did it constantly. Then, it seems that the manufacturers of metal cans used for soft drinks (and beer) decided to save money by making the metal thinner. This rendered this trick practically obsolete as it then would leak terribly. The only retailer I found to still use the slightly thicker metal for their sodas was Whole Foods Market (which I currently use). I found no suitable beer cans. I was terribly disappointed as this was at the top of my list for performing a true miracle with terrific reactions. For those suspicious of the can (as they could not imagine any other possibility) I'd openly let them examine it, even though they actually could have found "the modification," no one ever did, making it and open and shut miracle. So, now that this effect is back in town, I have to wonder what that gimmick is that makes it possible, when I know the soda and beer can metal is still too thin. Or, there is now a way to handle the metal issue that I haven't thought of. I'd love to know and I guess there is only one way to find out.... This is a truly great effect.

Hi ya' CPWanio, as stated in my initial review, I have the prior version of healed and Sealed so I am making an assumption about the gimmick being offered now....but you know what happens when you assume.

I believe the gimmick is related to the other modification the can requires. We are not supposed to give anything away here or I would spell it out, but I'm sure you get my reference.

I'm glad to hear that you are still able to find cans suitable for you to perform this illusion, it would be a tough one to give up. I have been using the thinner metal cans and they seem OK to me, but I will try to get some of the thicker cans you prefer and see if those work out better for me.

Happy Magic!

Rick

CPWanio, the included gimmick is unfortunately only for the "sealing" portion, not the "healing," it will not help you with issues caused by thin cans. I've mostly performed this effect with cans of LaCroix sparkling water which have always worked great for me. I like that the lower amount of carbonation draws out the "healing" portion of the effect and makes it more dramatic. Maybe just don't press as hard or don't bend the can quite so much? I try to make it look like somebody has just squeezed the can a little bit after they finished the drink, like many people do. Just two big dents making the can a lop-sided hourglass/figure-8 shape.
