I like Looch, but this lecture was a bit underwhelming for me. Two of the routines are just
variations of well known ones by Bob Cassidy, and not necessarily strengthened in any way.
The middle routine is a tad confusing and I don't feel the process the mentalist is ostensibly
using would translate to most audiences. Why would you ask someone seemingly irrelevant questions
AFTER they've chosen a color? It would probably be more telling for them to answer BEFORE their
choice, but even then, the average audience member will not understand what you're supposed to be
doing. In other words, NOT direct mentalism at all with this one.
The opener was my
favorite bit but primarily with the theme. The method is way to heavy for the strength of the
reveal. It's essentially a 1-in-8 prediction where you aren't pointing out the prediction before
hand? Even to a lay audience, this is going to scream "multiple outs" (even if they don't know
explicitly what that means).
Some of Looch's devices are clever, but I find his
performances lacking meaning or depth so there's nothing much to find here as far as scripting or
character goes. He's just a friendly guy who reads mind, which is fine, but not particularly
fascinating.
I'd recommend the lecture just for some of the methods/devices but not much
else.
