That's what I feel Joel did with this trick. I'm all for simplicity. The more superfluous the moves
become, the greater becomes the distance which is created between the audience and your magic. You
don't want that.
There is no reason to include a 2nd card revelation. It's superfluous and
unnecessary within the context of the trick. Its only reason for rudely intruding and stealing the
spotlight from the signed card is because the method is heavy-handed, bulky, way too much work and
needless effort...and the method requires it. An easier method which accomplishes the same thing and
uses two cards with magnets is GEE by geemagic.com and doesn't require having to make new gimmicks.
As you've no doubt read by now, you can accomplish the very same effect with "Paperclipped"
by Jay Sankey. I've been performing magic for over 40 years and Paperclipped is one of my go-to
effects. It's so elegantly simple in its method and presentation. It does, however, have a flaw
which Bulldog corrects.
The "Fold" can trip you up if it's not identical to the tabled
card. That's why I score the entire deck. No force necessary. You might also consider learning the
new Back Peddle Fold by Sumer Seth, or KFC by Michael Kaminskas which is an easier version of the
Mercury Fold.
The biggest reason that I will never perform Bulldog is because you have to
make a new gimmick each time. Takes a few minutes...which I don't care to spend when Paperclipped is
so much easier.
