I performed this routine at a recent office Halloween party and received a most enthusiastic
reaction. Put some work in it. I purchased three inexpensive decks of tarot cards with different
back designs as well as three different colored velvet bags from Amazon, so a small investment in
props really paid off. Additionally, I researched my force cards so I could do a plausible one-card
tarot reading for each participant. I asked the newest staff member to select three people she
didn't know very well and to seat them in the chairs in the order she preferred. From there the bags
were selected, and then rearranged by a different staff member called upon by the person in the
third chair. Each person in turn drew a different deck of tarot cards from their bag. I shuffled and
each person cut to reveal a unique card and a reading was done for each of them. I then asked all
three of them step behind their chairs and hold up their cards. I asked them in unison to tip their
chairs backward and when the name of their cards were seen on the bottom their chairs, the audience
literally gasped and then cheered. I really didn't expect the reaction to be that strong, but it was
all people talked about the rest of the day. The right setting and mood will make this trick
powerful. I wanted to do some spooky magic for a casual office Halloween party. The use of tarot
cards and posing the question of random choices vs outside influences affecting one's destiny and
fate made this trick a real winner.
