There are a few lectures I've watch multiple times. Michael O'Brien's act is one of them.
If you like classic plots with some new touches, or you're looking for strong routines for your
walk-around gigs, then you'll like this lecture.
The highlights for me are his chop cup,
mini deck, and card at a number routines.
You'll also see Michael get a good five
minutes of strong magic and audience participation with the purse frame and sponge balls. It's a
well thought out routine that I'll be using. I particularly liked how he uses the frame as a call
back throughout his act. I like using the purse frame, so it was nice to see some ideas I hadn’t
considered.
Also worth mentioning is Michael's teaching, which I found to be clear.
Beyond the magic, you might want to pay attention to his audience management- always polite and
welcoming. Nate Leipzig is quoted as saying "if they like you, they will like what you do." Michael
seems to understand this. It shows in how he interacts with the audience and his volunteers.
At the end of his lecture you'll like Michael, you'll like his act AND you’ll have learned some
strong magic.
