This is a simple effect that is a bang for your buck. If you have to carry a sharpie anyway, why not maximize the effects you can do with the stuff you have?

I have only done it a few times with a pretty darn minimalist presentation (prediction effect with a cl***** f****), and each time I have gotten way bigger reactions than this thing deserves!

So go for it. Why not??
