First of all, the negatives: this series is no longer available on DVD - why not? Secondly, I found
myself screaming at "the Host", Max Maven to just "SHUT UP! SIT DOWN!" This guy is so annoying - I
cannot believe Tommy Wonders permitted him to be involved with this project, yet this yahoo keeps
butting in - not in an effort to help motivate Tommy from explaining his tricks - he needs no help -
but for this guy to get his 15 minutes of fame shooting his mouth off. Max Maven is as irritating as
fingernails on a chalkboard.
Having gotten this out of my system, now for the positives....
you need to get this 3-DVD series on download while you can. For less than a Benjamin, you get some
real keys to the mint here; the family jewels in some of the best magic performances I have ever
seen.
He provides the performances, and you get to see these people lose their minds
because they just cannot believe what they are seeing. Then you get Tommy's step-by-step process for
performing his tricks yourself, and he does so in a very thoughtful, crisp manner so that you cann
walk away with no confusion or questions. He's a great teacher.
The price is right for this
series. If you can get past Max Maven's nauseous brown-nosing and butt-in-ski's then you will be
amazed by Tommy's performances and his explanations.
I'm not arguing with you about his involvement (i haven't purchased the set yet) but do you really not know who Max Maven is? He might butt in too much, as i said i don't know yet but he's been at the top of the game for something like 40 years. Check out the "top inventors" tab on this site, he's always on it and people are constantly citing him as their inspiration.
I agree with Brett. Maven is quite annoying on this video. It would have been much better if he had let Tommy finish a few more of his own sentences. It becomes worse when you rewatch sections to learn and have to hear it over and over. I get why he was there and what he was trying to do, but I think he should have let Tommy Talk. Still, it may very well be my favorite video set ever despite Max.
