This is a surprisingly good trick, even if you are not an artist (although it helps if you can draw, but not necessary). The secret actually fooled my girlfriend, who has known me long enough NOT to be easily fooled. The only real issue is that the book should have been wider/bigger, about the size of a standard paperback, which I think is a missed opportunity It is still very good.
