I never liked the classic pass as a tool to control a card or cards secretely.
I've always found
the spread (herman) pass superior, because I do work mainly in parlour settings or walkaround with
the spectators seated. Most classic pass variations are not "secret" enough in these settings.
On his DVD Akira Fujii teaches 2 Versions of the classic pass and his take on the top card cover
pass.
The first pass is for cocktail situations (angle wise). The cover pass is probably also
best for cocktail situations (angle wise).
The last and his final version of the pass is for
the situation I'm mostly working. Me standing - specs sitting.
The pass is technically the
easiest pass I've come across. It has very little movement and is indended to be used as a secret
control (rather than the many passes which should only be used as color changes). It is a smooth
pass without any rapid pulling. The teaching is excellent. I would guess that Akira has already
teached this pass to magicians before the taping, as he is going into a lot of important details and
thinking.
All three passes teached are worth learning, but especially his pass for seated
audiences are about the best and easiest pass I've come across.
