Magic Tricks

These were out of stock when I bought most of the other color decks. I've been looking forward to adding purple to the available colors for multiple color change effects or "rainbow" reveals (Royalistic, Dazzle, etc).

The purple coloring is great. In particular, you can tell even in lower levels of light (eg bar or restaurant) that the backs are different from blue and red backed cards when you have them side by side. This can be an issue with blue vs black and surprisingly with red vs fuchsia.

A blue to purple change isn't obvious in low light if you are NOT displaying cards together in the reveal though. (The spectator might not notice that anything has changed.) If you're doing a multiple color change effect, you'll want to go blue to red to purple or just use something totally different like yellow or silver instead of purple for working in dim lighting.

Also... heads up that either the configuration has changed since an earlier run of these cards or that there's an error in the product description. The description says the deck has one joker and three gaffs, which is what you get with many of the other special colors of Bicycle decks.

The purple decks that I received have two jokers (identical, full size black and white face) and two gaffs (a 6 of diamonds printed over a 10 of spades and Queen of hearts that fades out with the bottom half blank). This is the same joker/gaff configuration that comes with the silver decks.

I was hoping for some double-backer gaffs, so it was a bit disappointing to find that the gaffs are just repeats of the novelty gaffs from the silver deck. I'll probably never use them, but that's not enough to knock off a star. The cards are good quality, the color is nice, and as a plus you do get the second (matching) joker.
