Having seen Alexandra Duvivier perform live - meaning in parlour setting - recently, I was happy to
grab this Penguin opportunity. First of all: her show and therefore the whole magic does not work
well via video. You need to be in the same room to be caught by her charm. In video it looks
somewhat contrived and corny. And surely nobody should copy her stile and patter, like with any
magic performance.
Regarding premise and method none of the effects are new or
revolutionary. Which teaches a lesson on its own: with the right presentation, you can create
miracles without inventing the next secret method. Some, if not all, of those would have fit well
into Dan Harlan's Tarbell series and I mean this as a compliment.
The teaching is clean and
good, and entertaining as well. You also get to see a slightly more serious side of her. On the
other hand she can be tongue in cheek when plugging Penguin. Besides the methods, also some of her
and her father's approach to magic shines through, which is also great.
This is not a
typical Penguin Live lecture and if you want to see more of the same, don't buy it.
If you
want to see something different, buy this Penguin Live.
