Fair Disclaimer: I have not purchased this item thru Penguin, I have acquired this item second hand from a swap meet, but it is the same product in near mint condition having never been used.

This product is constructed from a flimsy metal. It feels like the same kind of sheet metal appearing canes are made out of. And it's about as thick as that metal as well.

The spirit trumpet looks to new to be viable for any seance work. The trumpet has a nice shiny new metal appearance. As a bizarre worker, I have a serious problem with that.
Spirit trumpets aren't in the modern ghost hunter kit since nowadays most ghost hunters use mini recorders or cellphones for EVP sessions. If this had a vintage look, if it were aged appropriately, or otherwise looked like it belonged in the proper time period you'd expect to see it from (circa 1920's-1940's) then maybe. The construction though would still be a worry, I honestly don't think this thing would stand up to prolonged and consistent use. It would be better suited for a shelf as a conversation piece. An expensive paperweight.

The trumpet does not, in and of itself, do anything. It isn't gimmicked in any way. Mine didn't come with instructions, so maybe there was originally some routine devised for its use. Probably to devine a selected card or something banal of that nature. So unless you're already familiar with their use and know how to use them you're not getting any help here.

Honestly, the price is the biggest deterrent from this item. While spirit trumpets aren't common in the marketplace, they're not that hard to make either. And at over $90 dollars after shipping, you could and probably should make one for yourself before considering buying this. The price is just too much for what you get. I'd see paying $20 bucks for this. $30 tops, but no more.

To those who are looking, keep on your quest. This is not what you came here for.

I have one of these Spirit trumpets. In response to the previous critique, I have this to say. I have actually seen real Spirit Trumpets from that era in person and they look virtually the same. Some of them have inscriptions on the Bell area which would say who and what manufacturer. Otherwise there are collapsible spirit Trumpets like this or complete single cone. The material that they are made out of, is the same as the one you can purchase here. The original Spirit trumpets from the past are made out of the same gauge aluminum. One of the qualities of aluminum is, that they don't oxidize very easily. So they don't have that old look, that a lot of bizarrists tend to overindulge in. Overdoing and not understanding the patina of age literally destroys the believability of the prop and the magic. No tea or shoe polish required. They are lightweight so they are easy for a ghost to move around in the dark. There isn't any official magic trick with the spirit trumpet because it was used in allegedly real Seance settings. But there are plenty of books out there if you want to find how the charlatan Spirit mediums would use Spirit trumpets. Robert A. Nelson has several books on the subject the method of using or incorporating a spirit trumpet in a seance. Magic World Publishers has reprinted many of Robert Nelson's books. If anything this is an authentic Spirit trumpet. It is a bit spendy at $90. But I decided to purchase one and I'm glad I did. It is well made. I could make one myself but when I consider how much I charge per hour as a prop fabricator, this is a bargain.

The original Spirit trumpets from the past were made out of the same thin gauge aluminum. One of the qualities of aluminum, other than being lightweight, is that it doesn't oxidize very easily, similar to stainless steel. So, no matter how old they are, they don't have that old look, that a lot of bizarrists tend to overindulge in. Overdoing and not understanding materials and how they patina with age, can literally destroy the believability of the prop and the Magick. No tea or shoe polish required. They are purposely lightweight to make it easy for a ghost to move it around in the dark.
