From the spectator's viewpoint, all the rules are laid out prior to the start. They are told there are 12 steps which are number on a stack of cards. Everything is up front and above board ... as far as they are concerned.
From the magician's side, everything looks quite fair and straightforward. No sleight of hand or fancy stuff involved. A beginner could do it. But it is highly entertaining.
