I haven't performed this yet, because I just got it yesterday, but I've been practicing the hell out
of it, and I love it.
First, the product itself:
This is very well made. A lot of
thought went into what you get and what you can do with it. Aside of just the basic handling for the
effect - at work, we use sharpies and pens a lot, so I'm always flipping one around through my
fingers, because I fidget, and it's just a fun thing to do when I'm walking around.
I can
do that with this, with no issues at all, which is a huge plus, since people are already used to
seeing me casually do it. I'm a big fan of unassuming things that pack a punch.
The
video for this is amazing and a lot of fun to watch. You're taught a variety of ways to perform the
effect. The banter and chemistry between Bizzaro and Danny makes it so much fun to learn. Javier is
filmed separately and, as always, is full of energy, fun to watch, and very detailed in his
teaching. I love that these guys (and I mean for all of the products I've gotten) are as excited to
teach these effects, as I am to learn and perform them.
This is my first 'pen through'
effect, so I can't speak for any others out there, but I couldn't be happier with my purchase. If
you want a 'pen through' for your act, this one is awesome. :)
Update: In the last couple of days, I've gotten to perform this for a few people at work, and they freaked out! I've only done the version you see Javier do in the trailer so far, and it's gotten great reactions. I'm still practicing the wormhole version, but I'm stoked to show it. Eventually I'll get to some of the more complicated stuff, but this is great for getting used to doing the effect confidentiality.
I show a dollar, and just casually have the pen. I click, write something simple on the dollar and unclick. I stab through the dollar, and hold it all up to show them as I click and unclick again. I pull the pen out and show the dollar fully intact. So far, no one has questioned anything or asked to examine anything. They either can't believe what they just saw, or ask to see it again.
For now, I tell them maybe a bit later, just to keep the mystery alive for a while. This works great because it's a pretty busy job, so it makes sense for me to get back to work after the quick one-off.
