I just finished writing a review of Steve Shufton's "All Out Magic" book for my CLUB 793.8 magic
magazine. The book contains detailed instructions for performing Inexplicable. I have read several
negative comments about this effect and wanted to clarify possible misunderstandings. Inexplicable
is not difficult to do, but it does require subtle audience management. It does require the magician
to understand what it means to be an entertainer. That only comes from experience; therefore, I do
not recommend this effect or the book to beginners. Certainly, a beginner could learn to do the
trick, but with a good presentation, the simple trick becomes a miracle. As someone who has
performed this effect for laymen, I assure you it is a knockout. Your presentation will determine
whether this trick is a fun puzzle or an Inexplicable mental miracle. Therefore, beginners should
avoid this one, and pros should jump all over it and put it in your shows.
