This is a collection of easy-to-do (with practice) effects that are guaranteed to hit hard for
anyone. The reason I gave it a 4 is because of the need of materials and setup.
There are
very few tricks that don't require either preparation in advance, or some kind of materials (i.e.
pay envelopes, gaffed cards, a blank deck, business cards, bells, a hole punch, a hankercheif and a
spoon, and several other items that should be no problem (deck of cards, Sharpie, etc.) There is at
least one impromptu effect that I can think of right now, but for the most part, setup is necessary.
Granted, some of the setups are "one-time" setups and can be re-used, but I was hoping for
more stuff I could do without having to carry around, for example, an already prepared packet of
cards marked with sharpie X's on them, everywhere I go. Don't get me wrong, this stuff is very
usable, but Jay refers to "going to his 'case' which he says he usually has with him, to switch out
envelopes and things.
Overall, a good variety of very easy to do material, combined with
some of the best teaching and entertaining presentations ever, I recommend it to anyone interested
in adding some powerful mentalism to their repertoire. I don't recommend it to those looking for
impromptu or street magic, but for intimate close-up venues, this is great for magicians of any
skill level.
