Alex Elmsley is best known for his namesake false count, the Elmsley Count. This DVD series is Mr.
Elmsley teaches his best known tricks intermingled with interview segments where he talks about
things such as the origins of the Elmsley Count, or what he originally called the Ghost Count.
The tricks are quite good. He starts with the trick that "started it all," the Four Card
Trick. There are so many variations of the Elmsley Count that it is nice to see how the inventor
teaches it. It's not the finger tip method but a left to right hand count - a bit different that
the left hand dealers grip method that seems to be the most popular today.
Twisters Flush
is a nice impromptu packet tricks. I really like Dazzle, it is a hilarious effect but you need to
find several different backed decks to construct the gaffs.
Overall, this is a great DVD
and you'll learn a lot of useful packet moves and false counts such as his Everchange Count. It is
produced well and includes "super practice sessions." If you've never seen this format before, the
magician review key sleights at a slower tempo. The degree of difficulty is pretty easy once you
master the false counts. Highly recommended.
A decent set of gaffed cards is absolutely necessary for the 'Dazzle' routine - quality cards are crucial, as customers will find out when they purchase this Elmsley dvd.
Shawn Evans of mimesis-magic.com has recently produced the latest run of his 'Dazzle' set: his quality of workmanship is excellent and the materials are A1 1st Class quality. I just purchased a set (+ plus some other stuff he sells) and now I will be buying this Elmsley vol 1 dvd for the elmsley count and the routine.
