It is no surprise that I like the work of Henry Evans; visual, powerful and VERY original. This DVD
did not let me down at ALL, and I am incredibly glad I picked this up.
First off, the
tricks; as I stated above, all of these are visual and powerful. These all are, however they are
allowed to be that way MOSTLY because of clever gaffs (with some exceptions). I have nothing against
using gimmicks in performances, but if you do, this might not be your DVD set.
As far as
individual tricks go, I feel like I was blown away MOST by "The Cards Expert". An almost 5 minute
long performance piece that I thought was INSANE amount of sleight of hand and a LOT of practice...
...I was wrong. That trick is one of the easiest you CAN do, but REALLY will convince an
audience (or a magician) of how good you are. Another lesson in "simplicity".
Overall,
without spending TOO much time talking, I was very thrilled with Volume 1. Great DVD with great
stuff on it. Even if you don't perform any of the material, I feel as if seeing the creativity of
Henry will inspire you and teach you how to use simplicity to get GREAT results.
If nothing else, a lesson in creating.
