I got my cane and read and followed the instructions. If you read the forums and discussions that are available after you buy the cane you can get some great tips for better performance. I like the effect but not overly impressed. I dont think these are worth $25 bucks either and thats why i knocked it down a star. I used 9 inch silks with it and you could go bigger if you wanted to. I would recommend for stage and not upclose work.
