Alright I bought Dice Production Frame (12 Die) by Sumit Chhajer and couldn't find a review for it
so I thought I would put one up. First off I have no experience with similar effects, thus this is
the first time I have used a dice production frame. So I can't compare to anything else, but I will
give you my thoughts on it. Here is a link for a youtube video. I was worried about the video
editing, but read on.
The reason I found this was I was looking for effects to make into a
music section for my kid shows. I thought this would be good a good fit and I loved the colors,
which is was my music section is about. The section is very visual and colorful. That was my
motivation for buying it.
When I first got it out of the packaging, I noticed it came
with a carrying case. It is a nice black bag with the logo for the item on it. Functional and I like
the fact that it came with a bag. So many effects just come in plastic wrap and leave it to you for
storage. The second thing I noticed is that the square tube is heavy. It is wood and I would
estimate that it is durable. It was about 5.5 lbs shipped. Third would be it does pack well. In its
bag it is 16" wide, 12" tall and 2" wide. It is about The instructions were clear (although it
wasn't hard to get the idea once I was in the know). The dice that you produce I would say are a
little on the soft side, but I like them and with care should last. After you are done with the
effect, loading the dice up was easy (my almost 3 year old daughter helped me). Now the editing of
the youtube video made me think twice about buying this, but I will say it only lets out a tiny move
that you have to do. Once you know how it is done you realize that it isn't that big of a deal that
it was cut, but for the price you think that it should be a continuous shot. That is the basics, now
I will give some point values 10 being highest 1 lowest.
Quality of Tube : 9/10
Quality of Dice: 7/10
Ease of Use : 8/10
Price : 4/10 or 7/10
Overall: 6/10 or
8/10
I will explain my scores
Quality of Tube : I gave it 9/10 because of the
heft of the tube. It feels heavy and it solid. Looks good too.
Quality of Dice : Thought
the dice seem a little cheap, but good overall. I like the colors which is the primary reason I
bought it.
Ease of Use : Very easy to use. And resets easy as well. Not much to say, but
it is compact and works great.
Price: It retails at $175, but I got it for around $125. My
price score is with those two price points in mind. The $175 is 4/10 and $125 is 7/10. If I were to
pay the $175 I would want extra dice or better made dice, but for the $125 - $140 range I think it
is a good value.
Overall: I think this is a good effect. It does take up some space in
your bag of tricks, but not a lot. At the lower price point it is a great buy in my opinion. I like
the effect, it is easy to use, and easy to put away. The only bad part I would say are the dice. I
thought they would feel a little more robust, but feel and how they really work may be two different
things. I would like to say that I haven't had it long and may update this with time. It will be
going into my show as of today.
Hopefully this review may help someone. I think it is a
solid buy and to see a few kids faces blow up with a wide smile made it worth every penny.
