I just finished watching the video. Even though I haven't tried yet to people, It seems it will work
well. It really is impromptu. No set up at all. All you need is a pen and some sugar packets. That
means.. the method of this trick is not a principle like mark, crimp or etc. You don't do anything
on the sugar packets. All you do on the sugar packets is that you just draw some symbols, names,
numbers or whatever you want. The method is simple and effective. You can just do this after you
watch the video without any fails.
That said, I don't recommend you perform this trick
alone or first to people. Because of the method is so simple it has a little chance of getting
caught from someone who really tries to figure out. I think people should trust your work first by
your serious work before you do this trick. This is really great effect but it would be much
stronger when people are really into your magic.
And.. If you want to do this to your
magic friends or people who have learnt some magic it won't probably work because I just figured out
before I watched the learning section. So again, this method is really simple & great but you need
to build up yourself as a real mind reader before you do this trick. Then it will be great.
My take on casual performing has very much been shaped by Brian Brushwood/scam school, so I agree with you, with some nuance. This is an excellent effect that bridges "clever trick" and "mentalism," so if you use it in the transition between your "real" magic effects and some sort of prop-bet demonstration, it really doesn't matter if they catch you--it just leads to a segue to your "more impossible" prop bet.
