There is a way to create new giveaways if you have time and want to save from buying refills. Simply purchase a blank pad similar at a local arts store. Using the "cut out" rose (I did this after using the first refill in a live peformance.), place a blank sheet of paper underneath and trace the image of the petals onto the blank. Then, using a precision knife, cut long the traced lines to obtain a new "cut out". Then, align this newly cut blank onto a refill drawing and lighty trace the stem and the petals. Using a square piece of ANOTHER blank (you can usually get 6 to 8 squares from one blank sheet.), tape the square on the back as shown in the DVD instructions. This gives you the gimmicked blank you'll use at the beginning of the trick. To make a giveaway rose sheet, simply take another blank, and use yet another "cut out" and using a RED EXPO MARKER (this is THE BEST color match Ive found for the type of red that is on the gimmick.), trace the red inside the cuts and fill in all the white in your "cut out" with red marker. Trace a green stem, and petal, and you're set to load the pad with a refill and gimmick blank! Ive found that I actually prefer the real drawing I make because of the "bleed through" that occurs as discussed in Martin's orignal Cardiographic. This isnt printed on the refills you purchase. But, I do use the refills if I am in a hurry and need to save time. The process of making up a new refill and gimmick blank takes about 10 minutes. So if youre a perfectionist like me, Id go that route, but its ALWAYS nice to have a refill handy! Either way, the trick is beautiful and VERY powerful when delivered with proper presentation. And YES, this illusion works wonderful close up as long as your treat the pad as Martin describes in the DVD before performing.
