Great trick.

I have not been able to find refills, nor are there instructions to make the gimmick.

I have put a second dime in a Splenda packet but it took too long
to be practical

Please tell me I'm wrong! Otherwise this effect should come with a disclaimer.

As the creator of this effect, I can tell you that you are wrong. You can get refills at a very reasonable price directly from platt magic. We didn't advertise this as we didn't want people ordering just the refills without the thoughtful dvd which includes many unique, essential handlings. Glad you like the effect and sorry to see you felt the need to give it one star prior to reaching out to the creators.
