First off, you need large hands for this, as I suffer from SHS (small hand syndrome) and it is hard
to cover up the secret with the trick. In the description, it states, "You will love the gimmick, as
it creates a beautiful illusion and the trick practically works itself." I do not "love the gimmick"
and it DOES NOT PRACTICALLY WORK ITSELF! You have to do most sleight of hand to cover up the gimmick
that is suppose to make it easier. I feel like this is over priced and misleading. I usually love
Regal's tricks but this is a dud. - Sean Sotaridona
omz40, the description says, “Uses a unique gimmick to create the impression of advanced sleight of hand.” I feel this can be misleading. To me, it sounds like it requires NO sleight of hand. Although anyone with just a minimal knowledge of performing magic can guess that sleight of hand must be required in this trick, the description can give false hope. Yes, as you say, some work is required in any worthwhile trick. But “work” doesn’t necessarily have to involve sleight of hand. Keep in mind that many of us are not professionals. Like it or not, many of us have lots of difficulty with even the most basic sleights. We cannot control our hand and finger size. We cannot always improve inherent problems with dexterity. And dare I say, those of us with a few years under our belts cannot reverse the effects that aging has had on our movements. Should we give up our love of magic? So my personal solution is, I shy away from tricks that require sleights. But how can I know what those tricks are if the descriptions sound like no sleights are required? Do not patronize me, Sean, or anyone else by saying “good luck with that.” There are TONS of self-working tricks out there. We do not need luck finding them. We just need a little more honesty in the descriptions. Now as far as David Regal goes, let me say that I LOVE Clarity Box. I am using a variation that uses a dollar bill instead of a card. Why? Take a guess. Right: because of sleights involved, specifically in the card version. The routine and sleights I need to do with a folded dollar bill are simpler. Now the Clarity Box, even as self-working as it is, still needs the magician to do at least some minor move. OK, the description for it does not make it sound like no sleights are involved. Ideally, every description for every trick would state whether or not ANY sleights are involved, or a level of difficulty. I know this is not feasible. But don’t make something sound easier than it is. I say this with all due respect to Mr. Regal. Oh, by the way, to everyone like omz40, I say this: I am NOT going to give up magic as a hobby, simply because I cannot perform like a pro. I am NOT going to accept the fact that I need to give up hope looking for self-working tricks only. I am NOT going to feel ashamed because of statements of the sort you make. If you need to completely ignore self-working magic and boost your own confidence by doing every sleight known to man, well, good luck with that.
