Ok - I think in many ways this trick warrants the many 5 star reviews. Setup is minimal, handling is
easy peasy, restoration looks amazing. A perfect effect in many ways. As a stand alone effect, it's
pretty damn cool. A great trick, but probably not for the working professional, and for the
following reasons:
There are some serious issues to consider if you're a working
professional - both where you can do it, and the mess you create. Presumably you dress sharp - nice
expensive suit, crisp white shirt, no playing cards on your tie, right?? And this trick makes a BIG
mess. You drop ash everywhere, you make smoke (smoke/fire alarms anyone?!), so right from the start
you're not going to be able to do this in many indoor venues. The host of a lavish party isn't going
to want ash on her carpeted floors or white table cloths. Where I live smoking isn't allowed indoors
anywhere, and lighting a matchbook on fire is going to quickly draw management's attention.
The other draw back is you end up with pretty dirty ashy hands, which isn't a good look as you
approach the next group. "Great here comes a magician. God, his hands are filthy". (Sure you could
carry some wipes, but pocket space is limited already, and it's just not a great look). And finally,
(without too much exposure I hope) a ditch is needed and you're probably not going to want to ditch
dirty ashy things in your expensive jacket's pocket next to other items you wish to keep clean.
So, a great trick in many ways... But not practical for those reasons. Good for a street
performance or tv segment, not good for a corporate dinner event, in a room full of smoke alarms and
posh people.
Robert,
Thanks for taking the time to write this review. I really appreciate your insight. I apologize if you were led to believe that Incinerate was designed or created to be done at high end corperate events.
Incinerate was created to be done in bars and social situations. I thought the ad made that clear when we mentioned bars and how organic this effect is. It's only organic if you are performing in a place that has matchbooks.
I hope you to the time to set this up and head out to a bar or social situation to fry some brains.
Sometime taking magic out of its fancy suit and performance situation makes for a very powerful moment for you and your spectators.
I believe that some of the strongest magic moments I've ever created were outside of a paid performance.
If you do take it out to the bar please let us know how it goes I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks,
Brent Braun
