I love this DVD and I recommend it to anyone new to strolling or table-hopping.
Here's what
this DVD is not:
- A treatise on how to handle difficult spectators. The trailer makes it
look like Harry's going to focus on what to do when "under fire" with disinterested or otherwise
difficult audiences. That's not really the case here - Harry shares many anecdotes and shows several
video clips of working in challenging conditions, but he doesn't directly address how to engage
these people in these situations, except perhaps by example.
- A showcase of hip,
state-of-the-art "street" effects. Harry's relatively conservative in the types of effects presented
here - nothing new or "edgy".
What this DVD is:
- A collection of very
well-taught, solid effects for strolling or table-hopping from a professional who's been making his
living as a strolling magician for years.
- A smattering of useful tips on topics such as
getting paid, and a number of hilarious anecdotes that teach some important points.
- A
collection of live performances in front of real audiences.
While not aimed at those new to
magic, there's a lot of good teaching here for the less experienced. Example: Don't know how to
control a selected card to the top of the deck? Harry teaches a simple method that can be used with
almost any deck with just a few seconds of prep and no tools.
Most of the effects center
around playing cards, but there are other props involved - wallets, pens, TTs, silks, etc. Harry
demonstrates with props that he sells, but his products aren't specifically required.
I'm a
big fan of Harry, and of this DVD!
