Worst thing I have ever bought. The spectator, if not a complete idiot, will figure it out. It is
incredibly obvious. The spectators that he performs for in the video dont really seem to care
either. I never write reviews, but I just wasted 20 bucks to basically learn something that
everybody already knows. Awful.
Could you expand on your experience with this... (you are the first person that has had a negative experience with Posted) would love to hear about it.
There is only one possible way to do this, and most people will figure that out when they think back on exactly what was done during the entire routine. It may sound cool at first, but most people reviewing it probably haven't performed it. The only options are 1) You have mental powers 2) The time on your tweet is not correct. Nobody in the video really seemed to care too much after it was done, because they knew something was up with the phone. Also, as most people will be performing for their friends, it is not practical to tweet something and then have to delete it so your friend cant see the...discrepancy. I immediately knew how it was done, but bought it because I thought, for $20, there would be insightful things on the video. For a &4.95 download, this would be great.
"...most people reviewing it probably haven't performed it."
I have to strongly disagree on this and possibly question if you haven't performed it correctly to a live audience. Posted has been in the hands of many, many, MANY working magicians - and they don't reflect your views.
"...The only options are 1) You have mental powers."
Its a mentalism effect. Isn't that what we are trying to convey that we have a heightened sense of the supernatural. OZ on AGT discussed that he had a connection with his twin in the womb. (OZ, I bought the trick you just did on Penguin for 20 bucks last month..) So its about building a character and making your persona more than just some guy that does tricks. Mentalism is not for everybody and in order to make it successful you have to believe it more than your audience.
"...2) The time on your tweet is not correct. Nobody in the video really seemed to care too much after it was done, because they knew something was up with the phone"
I can't dive into this too much without exposing but I've done Posted over a thousand times and no one has mentioned anything about it. I beg to differ, yeah not everyone will freak out and go crazy, but the reactions I got I was very pleased- especially showcasing Posted in its simplest form. A color prediction, that has no emotional attachment at all to anyone. Its a mentalism effect and I didn't dive as deep as I wanted to, because I wanted to showcase Posted in its simplest form. Posted has the flexibility to make it whatever you want. If I would of made an emotional connection with Posted I would got different responses. But I wanted Posted to be shown for the tutorial in its raw basic form. The rest is up to you. And you can't show posted off as a cellphone magic trick. The phone is not the trick, the phone and facebook is the vessel that is used to show the reveal. If you show Posted as a cellphone trick then people question the phone or facebook. So when you structure your routine keep that in mind.
"Also, as most people will be performing for their friends, it is not practical to tweet something and then have to delete it so your friend cant see the...discrepancy..."
As a working magician there are some effects that my friends dont see, this is an effect I hardly show my friends or people that are on my facebook. Posted does have its time and place, most of the events I work at they are complete strangers, and then me showing my facebook, they have an option to friend me later on. So it also opens up that doorway. But as far as showing this particular effect to your friends, its best to be shared with strangers. And I hope that you aren't just keeping your magic within your circle of friends. Cause its much more enjoyable to be shared with complete strangers.
Final thoughts, I am sorry that Posted is the worst thing you have ever bought. I truly don't want to release something that has my name on it that has that kind of stigma to anyone. But Posted is something that I and other magicians do regularly with great success. I am proud of Posted because I have seen the awesome reactions it gets. But I understand everybody is different. If I stopped doing the ambitious card routine because I thought someone would know I was taking 2 cards, I wouldn't be doing double lifts. I urge you to perform it and really invest some time into it. Make a story that justifies your style of magic, make it believable. And rock on with it. Other magicians have taken it and created miraculous routines. But you have to believe that it will work, don't be shy of the double lift or in this case using a cellphone. :)
I truly appreciate your input and connect with me and we can share more on magic.
To be honest, I think you are underestimating the intelligence of your spectators, whether they be friends or strangers. Sometimes people react a certain way because they think they are supposed to. I like magic that, when thought about after the spectator gets home, is still going to bewilder, and in my opinion, this does not do that. If you could do this and another person could go on your Facebook and see that you really did post it 4 hours ago, it would be different. I just do not think that an extremely simple phone mechanism that A LOT of people are aware of is worth 20 bucks. I've bought over 300 items from Penguin over the last 10 years and I have almost never been disappointed in anything. After watching the video for this, I almost demanded a refund....but I am not like that. Again, for a 4.95 download, this would be fine.
But to each his own.... some people are having a lot of fun with this, so who really cares what I think?
