I am an enormous fan of Mark Elsdon - he puts out some great, usable material with simple methods.
His discussion on equivoque in his previous Penguin lecture completely revolutionised my thinking on
the subject, so I had high expectations for this lecture.
Luckily these expectations were
met - another 3.5 hours of golden Elsdon thinking. He showed us an energetic stage performance of
his On the Mark effect, multiple mentalism with playing cards tricks, a fantastic way of doing Out
of This World which involves the entire audience as well as a selection of 'Conversation as
Mentalism' pieces, all of which are impromptu and entertaining.
I thoroughly enjoyed this
lecture - Mark was on top form, explained everything expertly and had some interesting discussions
with Dan Harlan about his views on performance and magic as an art form.
Comparing his two
Penguin lectures, I probably gained more from the first one, as in that he covered many classic
Elsdon effects like Balance, his take on Heirloom and his work with the Rubiks cube. This was still
a great lecture though and one you should definitely watch and enjoy - but I would recommend getting
lecture 1 first.
Thanks Mark for some great material and interesting thoughts and tips!
