This was a fantastic event! We attended New Haven, this past weekend of June 11. From 11 to 4, five
different magicians staged routines and then explained how they worked. It was like having 5
“private” magic shows. Throughout the day, these magicians and others worked tables where they
demoed 15 to 20 different tricks and routines, by request. While their goal was to sell you on
purchasing a trick or group of tricks (many had “5 for 1” specials), it was still a terrific
opportunity to be amazed and learn. Another great advantage was watching a diverse group of
magicians demonstrate different ways of performing: jokey, polished, casual, intense and aloof. We
also bought the evening lecture, and that was *another* 3 hours of magic show and explanation, along
with very informed q&a and observation from a seasoned professional - Michael Ammar. Whether you
want to perform or just love magic, this is an incredible bargain.
One “suggestion” to the
Penguin crew. Walking into the expo, at first, it seemed kind of “small.” While we didn’t know what
to expect, really, at first glance it looked like a very limited number of vendors in a big room.
Our first reaction was “Oh-oh, this doesn’t look like it’s going to keep us interested very long…”
We quickly realized how *wrong* we were and how much there would be to see and experience throughout
the performances and conversations with the magicians; but it might help to either explain more on
the upfront/advertising, or convey a bit more explanation/energy as folks enter.
