First off, I think Adrian has created a nice rendition of the Anniversary waltz. Now, let me tell
you ALL of the reasons I'm giving this 1 star....
They DO NOT tell you that the back design on
the gimmick is Maiden back. So if you don't use Maiden backs, guess what, prepare to buy some! Now
to some, this may not be a big deal, but as a magician who likes to keep his decks looking
consistent throughout the show, I don't like ringing in a specific deck just to pull off one effect.
And I already buy decks by the brick, so why should I have to go buy more decks, when they could've
and SHOULD HAVE told you that straight up.
Secondly, you DON'T get what the explanation
says you get. Adrian says in the explanation you will receive a full deck of these gimmicks which
will vary which 2 cards are paired on each gimmick. In other words you could have a Queen with a 4,
and an Ace with a 6, etc etc.... no no no... instead you get half a deck with ALL the same choices.
So I have 26 Jack of Spades with the 4 of diamonds. Meaning I would either need to buy 1 regular
deck of maidens and then buy a force deck of Maidens... OR buy 26 decks of maidens to use up all of
these gimmicks. That's absurd. So now ANY time I want to do this effect, I have to force the same
2 cards every single time. Which is total crap. i knew, as anyone who knows ANYTHING about magic,
that going into this I would be forcing cards. However what pleased me about the tutorial was the
fact that I'd be receiving an assortment of gimmicks so that it would be a different 2 force cards
every time which I liked the idea of so that each time you do it, if you happened to repeat it in
front of someone who had seen it before, it wouldn't be the exact trick from start to finish.
I watched the tutorial, and even then I didn't notice it was Maiden backs and he says, "You can
even borrow the deck".... yeah... because non magicians typically have Maiden back cards.... FML.
So after watching the tutorial, I excitedly awaited my gimmicks. Then they came and I immediately
wanted to send them back.
So I just wanted to let you all know the truth about this
before you buy "Screwed" and end up feeling that way too! It's one thing when you buy a trick and
unknowingly have to buy more stuff to perform it, but it's even worse when you buy a trick, need to
buy MORE stuff AND it not even come with what the tutorial says it will come with. Penguin really
dropped the ball on this one. I should've known when they offered a 40% off code that something
wasn't going to be good.
On top of that, they give you two handlings for the restoration.
One that can be done in the spectator's hands, which, even though it isn't a visual restoration, I
feel it's probably much stronger than the restoration you see in the video... WHICH, btw, the
"Visual" restoration is trash. It does NOT appear the way it does in EITHER of the trailers. When
you go to do the "move" to restore them visually, there is a flash every single time he does it.
You can clearly see a card is being unfolded and not just rubbed for restoration. Even though the
ending is strong, I imagine anyone that sees it will wonder, more so, how they didn't see the card
printed in such a way instead of wondering how you restored it.
Where the halves are
separated it's a perfectly straight line... how many of you tear perfectly straight lines? Because
Adrian sure as hell doesn't even in the explanation... the specially printed cards should've been
given a rough edge effect in the print instead of half and half perfectly.
I hope they
post this review. Because I have NOT truly revealed the mechanics. If you bought this and didn't
think you'd get a set of gimmicks that look like the finished product then you probably are too new
to magic to be doing this effect anyways. I'm over 20 years in the game, and even though I was
"lucky" enough to get it at a discounted price, this is by far my least favorite magic purchase of
the year. Save your money, you want a great set of gimmicked cards, buy Masterpiece by Rick Lax.
Yes it's Maiden backed as well, but it's 1 single card you keep in your wallet and it gets a
fantastic reaction every single time. Or better yet just buy a deck of cards that will allow you to
do Doc Eason's Anniversary Waltz, you won't go wrong with the original classic.
Holy crap. Half of this things on here isn't true. When I got the refilled deck, it came with some various, there isn't red number from 6 and above and black color from 10 and below. Basically, you'll be getting 2,3,4,5 in red color and 10, J, Q, K in black. If YOU been in the games for 20 years, you should have enough left over cards that you could just burn thru. Of course it will come with Maiden back! That is currently standard back across the US, and you get pretty salty about it. Maiden back is currently the most recognize deck, and will you rather have more fancy design where spectator never seen before? And assume that it might be something special about the deck? Adrian Vega is not going to build a special custom gimmick for specially for you or going thru the trouble just for you. It maiden back for it reason because almost everyone have one. One regular maiden deck, will give you enough to perform 14 screwed cards. That is plenty!
When you're going to perform the move, with practice you should be able to linen it up perfectly each time. Adrian Vega did great job with linen them up in the tutorial and he's not even performing it in front of spectator, he's teaching you how to perform screwed card. So don't get fuss about him on how he teach you in tutorial. Flashing every single time? Don't get exaggerate.
I'm sorry that you don't feel satisfied with Screwed Card, but please... give it to someone else who will put it in better use and invent in time to learn how to do this properly.
Adam Allred - I cannot agree more.
I will be updating my review as I watched the whole video, spent an enormous amount of time on this and they give you chunks of the same cards like you said. Usually with most tricks this is not a problem, but you need to use TWO duplicates to match the gimmick for the performance, and ONE duplicate from your deck will be destroyed.
That ONE gimmick from your deck that is going to be destroyed, is going to be the SAME card you have to take out of another deck of cards you have. Now, I have a brick and a few bikes however; I am not going to go through every single red bicycle card deck I have to remove the same card missing from ALL of my decks... They should have NOT made these in Chunks of the same cards... As I said, if it wasnt being destroyed or you didnt need dupes, like Rick Lax's Contact, or Tornado - you may very well get a lot of the same cards.. however, you dont need DUPES for that and you destroying his card alone. With this you are destroying that SAME card every time, rummaging through other decks you have and honestly that is a poor sell because they should have made the gaffs NOT in CHUNKS of the same cards, so you could possibly just go through ONE DECK of taking whatever the next random gaff might be to duplicate, in this case you have to find that same card - leaving you to be "SCREWED" .... The only other way is to spend money on a ONE WAY force deck or something however, being that you get 4-5 chunks of different cards and every card in each chunk is the same, front and back regardless, you will be spending more money on trying to get force decks. You cant even just get one, because if you want to use the other card on the side of that gaff, then it wont be there so you'll need to get a force deck for that side of the gaff. This really is not practical at all.
Very disapointing, I never even got to use the cards as I watched the video, practiced with my elites, and I am not about to take the same card missing from my brand new brick of elites.. This could have been made so much easier , making each gaff a diff card in the deck (front and back) so theoretically you could have just wasted only ONE deck of cards, always going to that deck that keeps missing cards like when you have spectators sign cards and you're always missing one from that deck, that is what they should have done for this trick, it sucks even more because I ordered two packets and got the SAME cards as the first one so this is a NON worker for me. If they change the cards and make them so you can go through just ONE deck or two, to use the dupes that would bring me and a lot of people with this problem back, but simply taking the same card out of every deck I have isnt going to work. I don't think most people have money on trees, and dont want that same 2 of hearts or whatever card you're going to use missing from all your decks , in order to do this. Pure disappointment... Thanks Adam Allred for posting this, I was going to re write my review and everything you said was music to my ears.
Take care & beware cuz were SCREWED..
ANDREWACEMAGIC and Adam Allred...my feelings exactly after getting my gaffed cards. You two saved me the trouble of putting my 2 cents worth regarding all the shortcomings of this trick.
Ironic!
What's ironic?
Simply, that PM removed a post in the public Q&A for mentioning this exact fact within hours after it was posted, but leaves these comments here.
Why the ambiguous actions?
Yes, I believe all accurate posts, flattering or otherwise, should be left in the forums.
Something, like truth in disclosure...
I'm surprised that this review is still here, especially since the previously mentioned comment was removed at 'warp' speed.
However, this review is true with the exception that is pointed out about the gaffs. You'll get approx 28 gaffs (4 variations, 7 each = 28) in a makeup of what is previously posted by @raptor...
The fact that you'll need to get the extra pair of normal cards should be a concern, especially if you're 'new' or a 'hobbyist' to magic and do not have a box of leftover cards from other decks after "20 years of performances"
It's a fun effect, but the marketing is misleading.
When I get maiden backed gimmicks I just use them with a normal bicycle deck. I have NEVER had a spectator take any notice of the differences. If you treat it like it is not an issue, they will not notice.
As for the other aspect of you not knowing, ALL gimmick cards are now on maidens or other similar designs because Bicycle doesn't allow them to be printed on their bikes anymore. You can also see that they are maidens in the trailer.
As for the tearing in half, I can get pretty damn close to tearing a card perfectly. You just need to crease the card back and forth a few times.
These sorts of effects are generally not performed more than once or twice at a gig. They are usually saved for the most important people of the event, similar to anniversary waltz. Which saves you from using as many resources.
what a bunch of pretentious whiny bitches you are
I enjoy drinking Milk shakes

This is not one of those effects that you should perform on the regular. Just like anniversary waltz it should be for special occasions to bring two people together and have a special moment in time and a excellent souvenir to take home to remember that moment. Young magicians these days need to really need to get there priorities straight and start looking for practical magic that they should use all the time. Openers, closers and everything in between. This is none of those. This is for special occasions only and should be limited. If you have a problem with the back design, don't. Maiden backs are so close to rider backs that no laymen will be able to tell the difference because they don't handle cards on a regular basis. Stop worrying about what the spectators think cause they aren't thinking about the difference in back design. If you really knew how to handle cards you could use any red back design and pull this off. So stop complaining, get you some books on magic theory and start learning how to be bold with your magic. Hope you appreciate this.
Would you happen to know if this can be used with Slide by DeMon and Titanas?
