I've known of and performed this effect for years. Found a version of it in an old Magic Shop in
Sarasota-came with 2 colored dice and thin white shoelaces! Years later, came across a more in depth
description/version in a John Mulholland book. According to him, the trick dates back to the Middle
Ages-nearly as old as Cups and Balls. Was once a staple of Magicians performing for Royalty. So-a
child can do it-with a plastic wand, strings and dice-AND an older performer may employ props and a
presentation that lifts the entire up to an astonishing piece of theater. A version I've made uses
old Chinese Coins and a Chopstick. Dante himself performed this on stage using smassistants and
larger props. Once the principal is understood, the props can be enhanced in a number of ways. This
is further proof that 'kid's tricks' are by no neans to be overlooked!
