This is a clever alternative to sleight vanishes. It's probably not going to work for spectators at arm's length from you, but if you have a little buffer it's a very good effect. You can show both hands empty immediately after the vanish, and there are no sudden moves. The gimmick will take a few seconds to make, using supplies you probably have lying around. For such a nominal price, this is well worth knowing.
