EFFECT: The performer pushes a colored silk into his closed left hand. When he opens his hand the silk is seen to have turned into an egg! Offering to "explain" the trick, the magician shows that the egg is hollow with a hole at one end. He pulls the silk out and displays the hollow egg. Again, he pushes the silk into the egg and shows how to cover the hole with his thumb. Then, he explains that someone might wish to question the egg, and in that case all you must do is break the egg on the rim of a glass and pour out the yolk and the white, which the magician does!

Good for a kids set Report this review

I normally really like Vernet's items. This one though just seemed too "toyish" to me. It would be great to include in a children's giveaway depending on the age of the kids and maybe is great on stage. Up close or Parlor though you must be real careful with your handling or you will give it away. In this particular instance, I would probably skip this product and look for something else or a different brand. Again props to Vernet as 99% of their stuff is great, I just wasn't real impressed with this particular item.

Dollar Store Egg? Much Better. Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on June 4th, 2015
I was going to do this trick for a group of individuals and the egg looks nothing like a real egg. It is too pointy and the yoke inside looks extremely cheap. I returned it as it isn't worth the amount I paid. I had high hopes for this egg. I went ahead and bought a better looking cheap egg at a dollar store and drilled a hole in it, and it killed with my last audience! I had big hopes for this one. not worth it

I have a version of silk to egg I've been using for a long time. I purchased this prop, because I liked the idea of not having to clean egg out of the cup. Very quickly I worked this into my routine and it went just as good. This looses a star for having to make my own yoke. The yoke it comes with will make noise. To fix this all it takes is a little imagination to find something that will not make noise. From the stage it looks like a real egg. I would not do this table hopping :) Since I have been doing my other routine for so long I have decided to stick with it. If you are looking for a simple, almost self working, less messy silk to egg, I recommend this one.

This trick is really good for state magic I find. The way I like to do this is to first put some yellow soap in along with the fake yoke, or even a real egg yoke. Usually when the silk disappears people are amazed, but there are always skeptics who will call out that it's a fake egg. I love when people do this. At that point I pull the silk out and confirm their claim. This is when you just do some magical wave and crack it open to reveal the egg yoke inside. From my experience, this always plays will with audiences.

it's a $6 trick, it's not going to look as good up-close as the $50 versions. and it doesn't have to- silk to egg is, at it's core, a parlor/small stage trick. if the audience is getting a close enough look at the egg to see the seam or yolk directly, they're too close.

really, it's hard to find this gimmick egg for less than $6- that's what you pay for. check out pop hadyn's silk to egg routine to get some ideas on how to use this gimmick for a really astonishing routine.

Best prop for this effect if you cannot/do not want to switch a real egg for the feke during the sucker explanation. I wish the feke yolk was a little larger.

I think this is a good deal the price and what you get is great but it's hard to put the silk troug the egg so yea it would be better if the hole was not in an angle and mor to the top but it is great ether way awsome

I performed it to a small audience.I plan to do this to a large audience as it has so much potential on a large stage. I had a good reaction when I just cracked the plastic yoke in the kids hand,he was really confused as he expected a small silk. The expression was gold.Man for the price I would grab two in case you break it- although it feels pretty strong.
Only con may be the load chamber and hole size could be a little bigger but not a huge problem. The reason I find the hole a little small is I like to pop it on my thumb for a bit of comedy, other than that the hole size is good.
Penguin is definitely good on price!
