Scott:

“This guy is pure showmanship.” -Piers Morgan

Scott sports and amiable, self-deprecating stage presence as he does tricks only magic aficionados are likely to have seen elsewhere.” -Las Vegas Review Journal

“Very unique and different for a magician.” -Sharon Osborne

“I’ve seen levitation before but not like that. Amazing!” -Howie Mandel

“Wow, you guys are still applauding? Maybe we should bring the magician back out here.” -Dennis Miller

Dan:

What will they teach?

SCOTT:

Shell Shocked- This is Scotts killer Add a Number Routine that takes us to the beach, where the spectators accurately guess how many grains of sand Scott has in a bottle. But then, the magic and mentalism wave crashes down slamming the audience with two more magical and startling
revelations.

Shawshank Card Sword- Tired of elastic breaking on every Card Sword he has used, Scott invented a simple and practical version using an ordinary sword and a whole lot of clever thinking. This three phase routine is outrageously funny, yet still delvers that powerful ‘Wow Moment” of the Card Sword without fear of breaking elastic. A perfect additional ending to Scott’s Penguin Download routine
called Backstabber.

The Brass Ring- The Jardine Ellis Ring is one of the most powerful yet underused props in close up magic. Scott teaches his four phase routine that builds to an amazing climax that happens right in the spectators own hand. Scott also tips his clever Optical Ring and String move. You will definitely give this routine the “thumbs up!”

Street Style Cups and Balls- Building on Scotts Chop Cup Routine and inspired by Gazzo, Williamson and Sheets, Scott discusses his progressive cups and balls routine he performs everywhere from the Renaissance Festivals to the Corporate stage. This routine works anywhere and is full of gags, jokes and bits of business.

Snapped Shut- This is Scott’s routine using the famous Daring Spring Trap. A dramatic yet hilarious card location that is painfully funny, with a great blow off at the end of the routine inspired by the great Steve Martin

Plus Performances of
The Though Toon Pad and The Poe Man’s Linking Rings

DAN:

Hold Your Clapper- An inexpensive way to make your own "Self-Silencing Bell." Useful for opening announcement to "Turn off cellphones or anything that rings," this bell stops ringing at your command. Perfect for holiday shows!

The Wild, Wonder Girl- A silly smash-up of circus sideshow and psychic sensation. A feral human female, raised by rabid squirrels, has been trained to identify animal crackers by sound and smell. A triumph of behavioral science!

Fool Me Once- The same method used to fool Penn & Teller allows any card named to reverse itself in the deck. Plus, the card's back changes color and has a message written on it. Of course, the full method for fooling P&T is revealed for the first time!

ACAANAAT Explained-  Exclusive! The full explanation of Harlan's Any Card at Any Number at Any Time (featured in his second Penguin Live lecture) is finally pried out of his mind since he's run out of other things to talk about!

Who are they?

Scott’s magic reached millions on NBC’s season six of America’s Got Talent where he advanced all the way with his large stage illusions. Scott had the honor of headlining on the Las Vegas Strip at Caesars Palace for over seven years and four thousand performances of large grand illusions fused with stand-up comedy magic. Scott’s magic has been featured on Penn and Teller’s “Fool Us” on the CW, The Sify Channel, Discovery Channel and NBC. Scott has appeared in Paris on the world class and prestigious Le Grand Plus Cabaret Du Monde. Whether it be the intimacy of a close-up sleight of hand performance, stand up comedy magic, or the all out spectacle of a large stage show, Scott Alexander’s delivery is always lighthearted, somewhat irreverent, amazing, quick-witted and sure to leave you filled with wonder and laughter.

Holiday Fun Report this review

These guys are the best. They really know how to entertain and always look like they are having fun themselves.

Plus they give out such great ideas. Dan's easy to make forcing bag is excellent. Scott's ideas for an add-a-no routine and card sword are fantastic.

As usual, they gave us a lot of great thoughts, presentations, bits of business and just great magic!!

You guys will be missed next year.

Thank you for the memories Mr Alexander Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on December 26th, 2018
This is the fourth extravaganza in the raw that I have seen the day it was released. For four consecutive years they were a real Christmas treat for me. So I was really sad to learn that this was the final one.

If you preordered this video for free and you complain that it had too many jokes and too many songs you are ungrateful to say the least. This is the purpose of the video. It is supposed to be a gift from penguin magic. A free gift to make us all laugh and feel the joy of the season. The tricks and the lecturing is just a bonus.

All that being said I have to admit it is a joy to see both Dan and Scott perform and share their material. They are both masters of the art and their knowledge of magic seems to be unlimited.

For me the card sword routine that Scott shared is the highlight of the video and something I will experimentally use.

So Mr Alexander thank you very much for being a true inspiration for me all these years. I am really going to miss the extravaganza next year.

Don't let it die Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on December 4th, 2019
Almost a year since my original review on this lecture, I'm sure most of my fellow magi will agree: we don't want the tradition to die. Not only you guys at penguin magic put together a very entertaining show for us, you also kindly give it to us at no cost during the holidays. Now, some guys did complain about the overall content, but most of us can appreciate the goofiness and the fact that the tricks serve to the purpose of kickstarting our creativity. Personally, I found a lot of golden nuggets throughout every single lecture. For example, thanks to this one, I came across one of my favorite props ever (and it was extremely hard to find). What I'm trying to say is, this is the one thing some of us look forward towards the end of the year. Some of us have to be far from family during the holidays and find joy in magical events like this. Magical in every extent of the word... please don't let it die.

All very good Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on December 27th, 2018
It is always a pleasure to see how Christmas is celebrated in Penguin. This year we have seen, on the part of Scott, a very good lesson on how to perform the classics of magic: from the "Caps and balls" to the "Linking rings".
Interesting is the "Card Sword" that gave me the idea for a simpler and more convincing version (am I a little presuptous?). As for Dan, I liked the "Wild Wonder Girl" that lends itself to an effect for children, perhaps with the help of a prepared child partner. For the leiman, very interesting is the version of "ACAANAAT", while the "Fool me once" effect is wondwrfull and brilliant.

Awesome Job by Scott and Dan Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on December 27th, 2018
Let me start off by saying "thank you". Scott and Dan work so well off each other and make these a joy to watch. Years of experience really show through with each presentation. There may be new life in my Jardin Ellis Ring that has been tucked in the corner of my coin drawer for years. It's sad that this is supposed to be the last Holiday Show, because I know there are tons of us that looked forward to this every year. It has been a pleasure.

Great Magic - Comedy is Down Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on December 26th, 2018
Another great Holiday spectacular from Scott and Dan. Some great tricks on this one, both classic(Cups and Balls, Linking Rings) and revelatory (Dan's explanation of his Fool Us version of Card Toons, and his ACAANAAT routine).

I'm going to be re-watching the Jardine Ellis ring routine and few others to learn them.

I hope this isn't really the last one.

funny Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on December 25th, 2018
It was funny, but once too much. 2017 was the best show. I'm a big fan of both, but it has too much self-promotion and iterations.
