The Champagne Supernova breathes new life into a classic close up illusion.

Matthew Wright has been secretly working on this effect for ten years and is finally ready to share it with the magic world.

An easy-to-do miracle that allows you to push a Sharpie pen straight through the middle of a borrowed signed coin. A never-before-seen method means that you can now show both sides of the coin at all times before, during and after the effect.

Multiple handlings and routines are taught, including signed coin variations as well as "The Portable Acme Hole" routine by Sharpie pen maestro, Tom Crosbie.

This is an effect that can be mastered by all skill levels with very minimal sleight of hand.

This ingenious gimmicked set does most of the work for you, allowing you to concentrate on performance and presentation.

Comes in various currency including US half Dollar, US quarter, UK 50p, Euro 50c and 10 Japanese Yen.

I pre-ordered this a bit ago and it finally came in the other day. I was excited to start working on it and added it to my Glitch Routine.

The device:
Here is the start of the problems.
First off, everything about it felt cheap. The design of the packaging seemed like an afterthought.

Secondly. The Gimmick, as creative as it is, also feels cheaply and poorly made. When using it, you can hear pieces moving around that I don't think should be moving. does not feel like it will last too many actual performances. Also, your Marker may arrive Dry, so You’ll have to replace the Tip and such upon receiving.

The video:
The first performance style that appears in the trailer is not the main routine. You are not even able to perform it unless you order the appropriate materials for it. It would have been better if they sent black dots with the gimmicks. You don’t see the real Routine until the end. Which based on the common person. (if they watch the trailer all the way through) will assume the first performance to be the main one. Not the end routine.
The video you get with the Effect is terribly done. I understand that sacrifices in quality must be made for file size, but in this day and age, there is no excuse for the quality of video that is given. The sound constantly changes and is poorly edited, making it a pain on the ears to listen to. The editing id armature at best.
The effect/performance itself:
I will give props here as the design is very clever. That being said. This is not a practical trick. Let me repeat that. THIS IS NOT A PRACTICAL TRICK! This is the kind of trick that you preset, get ready to show the trick than ditch it. Not a worker, but more of a one-off. Best used for Instagram or other social media platforms. While performing the “Standard Routine” if not careful, you could lose the main device that allows the trick to work. Not to mention the handling is so awkward that its best to only perform for one person at a time. If not you risk revealing the odd situation, you’re in while performing it. Not a 360 Degree trick. Severe angle issues.
I won’t tell you to not buy this, but I will warn you that the effect does require a decent amount of Choreography to perform adequately at best. Do not expect to be able to perform this out of the box, or even after watching the video. This is the kind of trick that If you want to perform it seriously, you will have to fail a lot until your mind designs the correct patterns to execute deceptively.

Overall, I would have paid more for a better quality product. In every way shape and form, the trick feels cheaper than its price tag.

Great Teaching - Practice Required Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on March 26th, 2020
This came in and I watched the video instructions all the way through. It is inspiring to see. I know (would like to believe) that with enough practice, I can perform it exactly as is shown and combine with other pen, cap and coin bits.
The over 40 minute video has very detailed close-ups and tips. You will need to purchase 12 mm "dots" to use. The idea of using a white dot and having the spectator sign it was mentioned and seemed like a neat idea.

With this "gimmick" you can let the audience see both sides of the coin while the pen is through which is a benefit over "standard" x through coin gimmicks which would potentially reveal the gimmick on the "back."

The "bonus" handling by Tom Crosbie was also good to watch. He combined and explained other pen and coin tips and subtleties that were great to watch. He taught/reinforced flip stick move, David Williamson's strike vanish and more.

I read another review and do not understand why 1 star was given..so I gave 5 stars to try to balance out that review.

Candidly, my only disappointment was that the "gimmick" half dollar that I received was a bicentennial coin from 1976. For those in the US, you will know that both the date on the front (1776-1976) and the back of the coin (which has the image of independence hall on the back) do not match other years which have a single year date and an eagle on the back. I would like to believe this was an oversight.

I look forward to practicing this and am not disappointed and do not believe there was any unfair representation of the ability of this to work as advertised with practice.

Do not let the fact that I say practice required scare you away, practice required is often required for most good magic.

Make sure your marker isn’t dry Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on June 16th, 2020
I finally got around to playing around with this only to find out the marker was dried out. I tried to get a replacement from penguin but was told I was out of luck because it wasn’t within 45 days of purchase. That’s what I get for trying to support small business during a pandemic. Guess I’ll be shopping elsewhere. It’s kind of bittersweet after all of the years and positive reviews I’ve given penguin magic.

Not a practical trick. Very cheaply made and will have to purchase dots. Music on tutorial is extra loud. Not as advertised in trailer.

Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on March 26th, 2020
in the trailer it recommends using black stickers. for ideal performance, guess what it does not come with The Stickers!!! also it doesn't come with a non gimmicked coin so you cant even practice till you can go to a bank which is impossible rn. this is the worst purchase ive made this year.

you end dirty (like way dirty )
gimmick is ok, somethings are bigger then they should be , and at a 30 dollar price point the product isn't up to quality. for me this is a wash its not an improvement, the original is better.
